Was this the case even on a 6.9? I know my 7.3 had the wavy thing. Will test resistance in the morning when i get back to the truck. I also have a new in box gp relay ill put in for good measure.
My 1987 has the wavy thing.

How does CDD manual glow plug controller reduce voltage?

Does the 87 have the controller on the under the realy or screwed into the head? Mine bieng a swap makes it hard to know as the donor truck had no right fender or wiring on that side

Here's a question. Is your 6.9 style glow plug controller unplugged? If it's not, that could be the problem. The controller could still be trying to work even with a manual button depending on how it's wired.

Got the dead glowplugs out. They arent bulged and came out easy. Any one see anything obvoius? They are motor craft ones from oreillys. As far as i can tell the button isnt coming on unless pushed.

Does the 6.9 have some kind of voltage reducer like the squilggly thing on a 7.3?

Thanks yall

do you have a good picture of the numbers on the plug? Sure dont look like beru to me.

If you are going to use manual control, use the bosch 80034 plug.

I think you're right. I see one number that looks like it starts "ZD2" and another one that looks like it says "ZD(unreadable)3". Neither one of those numbers are correct.

You're on to something, and reading that it struck me, that since the 87 6.9 went to the solid state GP system it should probably have the bullet top plugs. I went and looked at my tow truck which is an early 87 and it has the bullet style.

Could there be some other shenanigans?
Do we need Columbo?

Yes that's right. Ford switched glow plug styles as well as the controllers in 1987. For some reason, probably related to International, they changed most of the things to the 7.3 style except for the engine.
