I hope it didn't ruin your trip.

Unfortunately it did. The smell was so strong. It smelled similar to starting fluid. It didn't air out for several hours . Also at that point I had no coolant temp gauge hooked up , and some very large mountain passes to go through. I figured it was better to postpone the trip.

I guess better safe than sorry. Worrying about high engine temperature would have detracted from the enjoyment of the trip.

I've got a few thousand miles on it so far but haven't hit any grades that big yet so I'd definitely like to have working gauges. I got the bad gauge pulled and swapped the new gauge to the bottom of the pod to gain enough length to reach the block. Currently waiting on new valve cover gaskets to get here , but we'll try again to make the trip soon :) .

Little update on the truck.. She's been running great! There is practically zero smoke at wot / hard pulls. The max I can get the egt to is 600*. There is definitely room for more fuel. But @typ4 's turbo is working a little too good so I'll wait to add more fuel until I do head gaskets / studs. It will easily hit 15lbs which is more than I feel comfortable with on this old 6.9 . I have a few projects in the works for her. Updates coming soon :) .

I see that this one also has a turbo. That just means that you don't have to buy one.
