Literally, just 1 week short of 2 years to the day from totaling my favorite daily driver '90 F250 7.3 by hitting a cow on my way to work, I hit a cow in my '93, on my way to work. Before everyone piles on, I don't live in free range territory.
I picked up a fairly priced '94 Super Duty PSD to pick apart for the front clip parts needed to fix the '93. I couldn't find a '92 or '93 7.3 within a 500 mile radius for parts. My '93 has an E4OD and the '94 has a 5 speed.

Will the instrument cluster from the '94 work in m '93, or are they incompatible because of a PCM transmission conflict because of the E4OD vs ZF? Is it possible to mate a '92/'93 7.3 E4OD to a '94 7.3 PSD? Conversely, will the '94 ZF work behind any of my IDI engines? I'm trying to figure out if any of the chassis stuff is interchangeable before I decide what to do with what's left of the '94.

While you can interchange the transmissions, the flywheels/flexplates are different between the two engines. IIRC, the IDI has 9 bolts in the crankshaft while the PSD has 10. I don't know about the instruments clusters will interchange, but off the top of my head, I'd guess not. The PSD has an ECM and some or all of the gauges may run through that somehow.

Love the title of this thread, lol! Besides that I have nothing to add except to ask...how do you even hit one cow? They aren't like elk or deer that can literally hop up a 6ft ditch and stop dead in front of you. I've almost hit a few of those myself. Were they running full tilt behind trees or something, and burst onto the scene?

Cow Catcher.....I have one on front of my '90. & it's saved me several times! Big bull elk, big cow elk, several mule deer, 2 Texas sized mosquitoes (really Oregon bats), & I use it to climb up on front of my rig.

I've been looking for a used Ranch Hand to put on the '93. We have a lot of Angus and Angus/Hereford cross here, and most of them are in pasture with fence that is 50-70 years old. This time, the entire herd was out, milling both sides and across the highway. Black cows soak up every bit of headlight, you literally can't see them until they're right in front of you.

A good Angus cow doesn't show up very well on a black asphalt highway very well at night

Even with good headlights.

Makes a heck of a thud and a bad feeling when you connect.

Ok that makes sense, black cow at night, I was not imagining them active at night but clearly I'm not a cow man, lol.

Most states cows have "right of way." BTDT
You would have to prove the owner knew the fence was down and made no attempt to fix it.
It can actually be flipped around and you end up paying for a prized cow.

Oh that's messed up. It's not like someone would intentionally total a vehicle on some cow in the road. Well actually maybe somebody would, lol. For insurance fraud.

Missouri, cows have the right of way. Law enforcement won't even write a report. However, in both of my incidents, the farmer's insurance paid a claim in my favor. I run narrow, no shoulder Missouri black top to and from work, in the dark after daylight saving time. You close on black cows quick at 55mph.

My speedo is shot. Anybody else successfully use a OBS PSD instrument cluster in a '92 or '93 application?

My story on this is a little bit different. This was in the early 90's while I was working for a big cattle rancher. He was away for a few days. I got a call from his wife at night. She said that somebody had hit one of their steers with his car and wanted me to go find out where the fence was down and to fix it. A friend went along with me. We drove up and down the road looking with headlights and I ended up walking along the fence with a flash light for the entire half mile that their fence ran along the blacktop road. I couldn't find anywhere that the fence was down and I also couldn't find any sign that an animal had been hit except for some light skid marks along the road. The house was maybe 1/4 mile farther down the road so we went to talk to the driver. I was in my early 20's and he looked like he was a little younger, maybe still in high school. His story was that he hit it with his car, it flipped over the top of the car, got back up, and jumped back over the fence. His car was a mid to late 80's Camaro. The only damage to it was on the front bumper cover where the paint was cracked. So we left, fixed the fence where it looked like it may have been bad, and went back to talk to the boss's wife. i told her what we found, what the driver had said happened, and that it was completely impossible for that to happen (a 600 or so pound steer can't just flip over the top of a car without touching any part but the front bumper). In the end, their insurance paid for the Camaro to get fixed. Apparently, the whoever looked at the car wasn't the most intelligent. This guy probably hit something like a tree with his car and made up the rest so that he wouldn't get into trouble with his parents.

My auto body shop, that was owned by a good friend of mine I graduated with, but is now run by his son, said that happens all the time. When I had him look at my truck, he said, "At least I know you're not telling me a story." I've actually hit 3 cows in the last 35+ years. In every case I knew the farmer well, or the land owner. In fact, on this last event, I hung around and helped my farmer friend and his wife round up 25-30 head of cattle and get them put in, before I went on to work. I got called in to work at 1AM that night.

I’ve got a ‘93 parts cluster that I picked up for the odometer screen. After I get that swapped over, probably next weekend, I’ll make someone a heck of a deal on the remaining parts.
