Today, I took my truck on a treasure hunt and I did find some. I picked up a 1988 F250 Ex. cab, 4x4, ZF5, 7.3. Unfortunately, the body is too shot for me to mess with so I bought it with the intention of stripping it out and then sending it to the scrap yard. About three weeks ago, a friend sent me a text asking if I needed any 6.9/7.3 parts (well duh!cookoo). I told him that I'd take a pair of 7.3 heads since I have a short block but no good heads. The I said that I'd take the whole thing if the price was right. He told me that this guy said that there's two trucks, a 1987 with a 6.9 and a 1989 with a 7.3 both 4X4 with a ZF5, and he'd take $500 a piece. I told him HELL YES! I mean who here wouldn't? He wanted a ZF5 for a future project and that was all. I worked out a deal with him for one plus what he didn't want from the other one. He backed out of the deal so I looked at them and told the guy that I'd buy them both. I got some help (from a FREAKING idiot) today and I took him out to flat tow one back to my garage. The owner said that he had the truck pulled out of the weeds in his pasture with a tow style truck. The truck was at least 2/3 of the 3/4 mile (estimated) back to the highway. I got a little bit creative and decided to buy some 3/8" vinyl tubing and run it from the vacuum system on my truck and hook it into the vacuum system on the other truck to have power brakes on the towed one. It worked way better than the afore mentioned idiot did. Since it was only about 10 miles back to my garage, I had no issues with just leaving the transmission in neutral.

As seen in one of the above pictures, the front bumper was perfect until this freaking idiot slammed into the back of my truck three times. Then he'd hit the brakes and I wouldn't so the chain would snap hard onto my truck again. After the third time, I stopped to see *** was wrong. He said "the brakes don't work". BS! I could feel him using them in the pastures and down the dirt roads. I went across the highway and maybe 100 yards north of the entrance to the pasture to get on a dirt road (convienient huh?:Thumbs Up). At the first mile, I turned back to the north again and I could smell the hot brakes on the wind. The brakes seemed to work fine from where I was at. Since it was only about two miles from the garage when I stopped, I decided not to get into an argument with this (who probably had his head up his back side instead of paying attention to me). The front bumper is ok at best, but no longer perfect-cuss. After we got back to the garage, he said that I should sell every little thing off of the truck. I told him that I'm not in the salvage business and I don't really have room to store what I I'm going to take off of the truck. Then he said that he'd like to take the rest of the truck and see if he could sell anything. I said "Great. It's yours after I'm done." so I wouldn't have to bother with hauling it off. He told me that he'd even give me half of what he managed to sell from it. Apparently I did a good thing by keeping my anger to myself. Now for some truck body pics.

The owner kept insisting that this was a 1987 with a 6.9 in it. When I was looking at it, I noticed that the sticker inside the driver's door said that it's 1988. I also noticed that the head bolts sure did look like they were 1/2" 12 point. He STILL insisted that it was a 6.9 because that's what the guy he bought it from told him. Anyway The #1 reason that I wanted to get this one is because it has an ATS088 on it:cheers:. That alone is worth the cost of the truck! I have no idea where the seats came from, but I LOVE THEM!!! They appear to be leather. Even though the driver's side needs to be reupholstered, I sure am thinking about putting them in my truck. The radio seems pretty nice so it's coming out too. I plan to save all of the glass except for the cracked windshield. I'm also going to pull the complete wiring harness along with the engine, transmission, and transfer case. The other truck is a 1989 regular cab, but it's still got a knocking 7.3, ZF5, and a transfer case which is still worth the $500 when I save up the extra cash to go get it.

Vinyl tubing. JEENYUS!!! :D
Why thank you sir. I didn't think that it was worth the hassle of trying to load it onto a trailer for 10 miles. Plus if it had been in the same spot as when I looked at it, a trailer couldn't have made it back there. There's a narrow, steep sided, V-shaped gully that had to be driven to. I had actually planned to have another helper and also planned to be in the pulled truck. It's definitely something for everyone to remember in the future. It may not quite be genius. I did have three weeks to plan it out.:dunno Just in case somebody's wondering, I bought 40 feet of hose, used a fairly short chain, and let the hose hang loosely down the side of my truck. I held the hose in place with zip ties so it was easy to attach and detach. I also left both hood popped with the safety latches holding. I got all the way up to 35 MPH one time. Usually it was between 20-25 MPH.

Thanks. I think so too. That's why I'm planning to keep them and, later, have them redone and put them in this truck. Or maybe I'll put them in another one, who knows? Either way, I'm keeping them.

I'd love to get buckets for my 87 . Junkyards don't have any older 250 or 350's that haven't been picked clean.

They remind of something out of a 90s olds or caddy.

I have a couple of friends who know WAY more about Fords in general than I do (I have them beat on the IDIs and the 7.3 PSDs). I showed some pictures to one of them. He told me that they look like a kind of rare option for the Lariet trim package. The only problem is that the only trim emblem I can see is the "Custom" right over the glove box. They are factory Ford since they do bolt in the same way as the Bronco seats that are in my driver F250 right now.

I'm also pretty sure that I'm going to keep the rear leaf spring packs too. They are new(er) and still have a sticker on each one although you can't read either one due to what looks like black spray paint over them. There's also one more spring in each one than there is on my driver. My driver is the last picture.

A couple more "cool accessories" that came with the truck. An awesome "free flowing" muffler and a pair of sunglasses. That muffler ought to be worth absolutely nothing at all.LOL Sweet exhaust hanger on the muffler too, right?
