Has anyone found a fix for the throttle, without actually replacing the whole thing?

What I am talking about is how the plastic breaks up on this part.

Has anyone taken that apart and replaced the plastic with some kind of tubing, or a part off an ink pen, or something?

There's nothing wrong with the cable itself. It works. That's why I don't want to have to replace the entire cable.

The problem is that red plastic is broken. And it gets stuck sometimes.

It's supposed to be one plastic piece riding over another. But with it broken, that doesn't always happen the way it is supposed to.

There is supposed to be one piece of red plastic there, not two, right? My throttle is sticking a bit, and I can't see why. I'll have to pop my hood and count red bits.

I'll be eagerly watching to see if anyone has a better idea than replacing the whole cable.

I suggest biting the bullet and just finding a new OEM cable. Might be hard to find... but no sense in accidentally wrecking your truck over a small broken piece of plastic.

I'll spare you the story, but if you do indeed decide to replace it, go OEM NOT AFTERMARKET. All caps on purpose! Kinda like the glow plugs, do it right or do it again!

Love how you guys put the actual vehicle in the search when you look for the part you remembered.

Thank you. :D

I'll probably go for the amazon one. Ford part!

Thanks for reminding me.

I had this same problem on a couple of chevys. Broke the plastic off like you suggest. But not all of it. Had major problems.

What happened... The red plastic rides over the black plastic. This makes sure that everything stays straight, and the spring doesn't interfere with anything.

When I broke the red plastic off, now the throttle would travel just far enough, and the black plastic would get caught on the edge of the red plastic. You can see that is what is happening with mine, in the picture above.

If I broke off ALL the red plastic, the spring would get caught on the black plastic.

I believe what I ended up doing that time, was to carefully cut the black plastic off of the cable in the middle. Kind of carefully peeled or carved it off a bit at a time, so as not to damage the cable.

Then removed the spring.

Then put an extra return spring on the linkage.

All of which I will do to this one, if I don't end up buying a replacement, or finding a better solution than just removing all that plastic and spring.

I haven't tried taking apart that end with the red plastic. Would it be possible to take a bit of copper tube and solder a washer onto the middle of it, and use it to replace the red plastic?
