Yeah, I’ve got probably $300 in the whole nitrous and **** setup and for $60 to fill a bottle up it’s a lot of fun

It is, for sure. I just don't want to get attached to the nitrous and then not have it last very long. That's why I don't think that I'll even consider messing with it. I know that I'll never have the biggest or fastest, so I'll be happy with what I've got.

And I’m beat for the night. Fought the engine going in and it just doesn’t want to line up for me, gonna finish it up tomorrow when I got more light.

I read this whole thread and I feel like I know a lot more about the IDI than when I started. Thanks a ton for putting this all out there, I love the way you've experimented and reported your findings, I had no idea you could do all this with a IDI. Your fuel system explanations are gold, I can really picture it's workings now.

IDK what the future might be for my motor, gonna keep it stock for the most part I think, at least at first till the whole truck is shipshape. I'll sure be hitting you up about some of your reliability mods like the coolant plugs and your GP wire set when I make it that far. Thx again for sharing all this!

PS: This engine pic is about the best motor **** I've seen in a long time :D

Thanks I appreciate it, glad my project has been entertaining and somewhat educational for everyone, but if that’s the best looking engine you’ve seen then you should check out Project Jerry’s build thread also in my sig:

Here’s how I ended up rectifying the vacuum pump breaking off the engine. Took the top hat off the pump with the broken arms, and swapped it onto a spare pump that wants making good vacuum. The lower half is a just a lubricated cam so as long as I still have a top half that makes a decent vaccum, it can swap between lower halves and be fine.

Driving the truck this morning the turbo doesn’t sound great, think it might have not liked the last nitrous backfires when I took Jeremy for a drive

Well after 40k miles of driving in the rain and sun, the alt has passed away. Took a spare alt of the shelf and bolted it in place and we have charging again, even at idle. Few days ago we had a cold morning with a crazy DA, it was around -1700 ft below sea level and in the 30s, which at 1300 ft elevation where im at makes a big difference, heres a clip rolling into it on a dead highway with no **** or nitrous. 3.55s, 33" tire and zf5 if anyone wants to calculate mph at 3500 rpms in 5th...

It's not nearly the same as when I was there, but it still looks like decent performance for one of these old girls.

Got a chance to do some maintenance on the shop truck late last night, fresh oil change and replaced the water pump. Probably the easiest wp replacement Ive ever done, didnt need to pull the rad or drain the coolant, and theres no fan to remove or shroud in the way, just pulled the heater hose off and then the many wp bolts.

No more leaks and this nos pump performs much better than the old parts store pump. Dont ever see the temp climb when sitting in traffic, and of course no more leaks. The old pump had been on three engines by this time, and had a ton of bearing play. Id say it roughly had 70-80k on it.

I noticed lately the truck had lost a good amount of bottom end and I suspected a couple few nitrous backfires had hurt the turbo, pulled the intake tube off the inducer and the turbo looks great and its still tight, started looking for boost leaks and the $80 chinesium intercooler is leaking at the end tanks and I had a slight leak at the back of the intake where I had deleted the pedestal and was using an expansion plug in the cdr hole. I tightened up the expansion plug and now make 16-18 psi depending on what gear Im in, and if I punch it under 40 mph it just roasts the tires from a roll without any nitrous or ****. The amount of blow by is still a bit concerning, but this engine still runs great. Im putting together an open invitation dyno day and gonna try to get some cdd builds on the rollers and max out the shop trucks setup. Shooting for 275hp and 650 ft lbs on spray, but I would be happy with 250 and 600 ft lbs. Those numbers dont sound like much but the truck feels like way more than its probably making, its much more violent getting on it than a buddies 600 horse auto mustang. Ill update with more info once I have a date for getting on the dyno.

I can't spin the tires unless I'm in first on gravel LOL but 200k on a set of injectors isn't helping either!

I'm looking forward to seeing some numbers when you finally get it on the dyno!

So you're making 16-18 with a leaking intercooler? Or did you fix that too?

No the intercooler is still leaking, it’s got oil seeping down the end tanks. Still a stock junkyard ip and turbo too.
