I'm going to be taking this for a test drive tonight and was curious if you guys think it's worth near the asking price? The guy said he's open to negotiation. He said injectors have been rebuilt a couple years ago but he's not sure about the IP.

SCA.. coolant.. sca. Especially at that mileage. If he knows what that is and it’s in the truck, then it’s whether you like it when you drive it, and if you see other problems.

Price wise I have no idea

Be aware that the test strips are product specific. If you use NAPA test strips and the SCA is not NAPA, you may not get a true reading. Give it a try, though.

Is there a way to tell what coolant was used. Curious cuase ive never had to add ant coolant to my truck since I've had it going on 4 yrs now

You might try asking the previous owner what he put in. There is a chance he might remember :dunnoLOL, and an even slimmer chance that he kept a written record of maintenance. Maybe he even left an empty container behind the seat. Otherwise you're stuck with a WAG. :sorry:

I decided to pass even though I liked it. The guy had no idea about sca's, and the napa test strips said there was no charge, also the coolant was WAY low.

On the upside, it's 4wd, turbo with 5sp. That's a desirable setup. Price wise, that's at the top end of what I would pay for a truck with 250k miles. That said, it would have to be running well, clean, straight, and no rust. Do you know what to look for when you check it out? Do a search there are several good writeups here.

Crazy what them older ones bring. But again I am thinking of selling my 93 IDIT dually for 4k or 5k too. Bought a 90 4x4 couple of years ago in fair shape for 3k , been a good truck though.

You can still find trucks like that even up here in Canada. But prices are slowly starting to creep up. Never thought I'd live to see the day that IDIs start to sell for similar prices to newer common rail diesels, yet here we are. Clean OBS powerstrokes are starting to move up too. Hopefully it means that more of them will be well cared for in the years to come.

Low coolant is a red flag but if the rest of the truck was an absolute cherry, it could have been worth having a spare engine ready to drop in. I plan to do that with my truck one day. But with less than 100k miles on it since the rebuild, I think I have some time.

Any paperwork for past vehicle repairs? I would consider it a red flag if a vehicle that old didn't have a folder of receipts. I know not everybody keeps immaculate records but it is at least a sign that someone cared enough to keep records.

And yeah it is interesting to see the IDIs slowly creeping up in price on CList and the bloated Cummins, err Dodge value seems to be going down just a hair on the 1st and 2nd gen 12 valves. Yay, I really want a 12 valve.
