Hey all,

Apart from the front axle being useless as a result, will it hurt anything to run a D60 without the hub lock assembly? The truck I just picked up has at least one but it's in pieces in the toolbox. Can I just put the cap(s) on and drive it until I can find used/buy new locks?

Really I don't want to put any money in it until I know it'll pass inspection.

if that axle never spins it should be ok. otherwise the far end of the stub shaft is not held axially and can flop around hitting metal on metal between the spindle and stub shaft.

Hmm... Alright thanks. I'll have to look into what all is there and what might be missing or broken then.

Does anyone know if the newer SuperDuty locking hubs will interchange? I realize I'd have to check spline count to be sure.

I'm pretty certain a D50 has the same locking hubs. Spindle out from a 50 should fit on a 60. TTB 50's are abundant in the yards around me.

Looks like I have most of the parts here actually. I haven't looked up a diagram but I might be able to piece together a set here. Some of the parts look pretty chewed up but if I clean them up they might be usable.

Anyone have a good illustration of how they're supposed to be assembled?

I think I have a factory hub that is complete but the plastic outer cap is messed up if you end up needing bits.

Or if you're really cautious remove the front driveshaft.
That's all I'd do it's supported with a bearing and the hub just engauges the axel to the wheel hub I'd becautious putting a bunch of chewed up crap on the axel for fear hat it won't release then you drive for a hundred miles with the one side locked in that's ******* fuel and the front end especially if your running 50 mph for a while call me a nut or crazy but I use my 4x4 all the time and don't take any chances with it

Argh just threw out some factory lockers a few weeks ago. Customer said they wouldn’t unlock but they looked like they just needed a good cleaning. He bought a set of warn locking hubs that I installed and they are wayy beefier than the stock setup.

One of the few really good parts my truck had on it when I got it. I like my warn locking hubs.

@Thewespaul day late and a dollar short should be my life's motto lol!

I thought about them but holy moly they're pricey! I'll probably either find junkyard ones or try the superwinch ones assuming this passes inspection.

I hope to toss brake lines on it and rubber fuel line, pull the batteries from my 91 and run it down the street for inspection. If it passes she'll get some love and tags, if not I'll get my 4wd swap parts for the 91 lol!

It's been a while, but I think the Superwinch hubs were decent too. They may not have been Warn, but not too bad.

Cool thanks, the superwinch ones are like half the cost of the Warn premiums. That was just summit racing though, I haven't really shopped around yet.
