My OBS truck has a bunch of posts missing from the drivers side hub! I'd like to find the can plate, spindle nut, locking clip...but on the other hand I would also be interested in a complete hub our even a set.thanks!
If somebody is dying to trade for manual hubs I have a set of low mileage...
I looked into this some. All the various engines have an adapter bolted to the back of them which allows the bellhousing to bolt up. Unfortunately the cummins has a bt series engine to small block Ford bellhousing adapter, while the IDI has an international to ford diesel bellhousing adapter. So...
The adapter gizmo between the bellhousing and the block is the same. The input shaft is.a.different diameter and spine count. I have had really good luck with a SMF. There is complete kit from south bend clutch,or LUK. The ZF5 is a great transmission and really changed the feel of driving the...
Exactly right! That 7.3 shows the adapter to some sae bellhousing. Apparently they are all round like that one, just different diameters. I don't know if cummins ever made a zf5 adapter?
Thanks fellas. The confusion on my part, is based on the whole sae bellhousing thing. I believe that the various engines have proprietory patterns that adapters are then bolted to. In the case of the ford/idi business then the bellhousing bolts to the adapter. I have no idea why Ford choose to...
Don't tell Mel, but I've been toying with the idea of putting a cummins engine (probably a 4bt) into my truck. I'd like to keep the ZF5 I have in there now. There are some commercial adapters out there, but many of the bread truck donor engines I've seen have adapters with them as well. What I...
intermittant module
The black box that is plugged into the back of the switch house a printed circuit board with sub par soldering. The cold solder connections fail from vibration ( or especially from letting the parking brake slam the dash). the fix is easy.
Remove the black box, and pop its...
I wouldn't worry about an oil pressure switch stalling the engine. The injection pump can pull enough fuel to run. In fact the oil pressure switch may not function as a engine saving device at all, but if you roll the truck it will stop the spray of diesel.
most auto part places loan or rent pickle forks. So when you buy the new parts you can pick the right size out. It's an easy repair, don't be afraid to use a big hammer!
I'd guess it was a conversion from 2wd to 4wd. I personally like the idea of coil springs, and have wondered about using a combination of bronco parts and f250 bits for a coil sprung f250 ttb, but Mel's trials with the 8 lug knuckles put me off the hunt.
You don't mention the year truck you have in your signature;Really
Depending on the year the brake pedal arm has the pivot for the pushrod in a different location. For my truck (1984) it wouldn't work at all with the stock pedal. The donor truck (1987 450) has the pedal and the pivot which...
This instruction is almost right:
What I find really works is to:
push clutch fork toward the front of the truck and hold it
Open bleeder screw
close bleeder
release fork.
repeat a couple of times until only fluid comes out, without air.
I find a big screwdriver works pretty good...
I used a two layers of the "brown bread" product from these guys when I swapped in my ZF5. I really was surprised at how effective it was in quieting everything down. I either don't have the gear roll over problem many have with the single mass flywheel or just can't hear it?:dunno...
Your WVO tank should be heated anyway. It doesn't need to be as hot as the oil is going to be after a final heat exchanger, but you definitely want it over room temp before the filter.
i like the idea of a huge WVO tank as ballast for driving in the snow! Don't forget to get a window scraper...
Please check that you didn't knock the electrical connections at the IP loose while leaning over the engine. When you say you have fuel at the injectors, is it squirting out around the nut when you loosened them or just wet?
Another happy convert! However to save yourself the endless trips to NAPA to talk to dunces about weatherhead fittings...go before you disable the truck and compare the f450 MC with what you have in your truck. In my case 1984 truck>1989 f450 parts required two adapters. One from 9/16-18 to...
3.1 is definitely in the zone. Did you measure both sides? I like your technique for trying to determine caster angles! What I have usually seen is using levels to measure camber, and I think the 20 degree turn angle is just to have a standard for the machines. I'm sure that further is better...
David-
I'm currently involved in the same struggle with my truck. My symptom is a little different than yours however. I have to constantly correct it to stay centered. I read quite a bit about caster angle and its easy to measure if you have a level that will read out in degrees, or you can...
Disconnect the batteries and let them sit overnight. Then measure voltage for each one. If one of the batteries has a bad cell, the regulator will dump huge amounts of current into the system trying to get the voltage high enough. It's one of the reasons some people insist on an ammeter in...
That sounds like the input shaft surface that the throw bearing rides on is either really rough or totally devoid of grease. Like Mel has mentioned several times the clutch pedal shouldn't be hard to push. If it is, something is wrong! I suspect the reason for so many cracked firewalls is that...
congratulations on your new ride! You should add the relevant details about it to you signature line, so when you ask for help in the future people know exactly what truck you have.
The basic troubleshooting flow chart for your truck is:
1. good charged batteries
2. clean connection and good...
Well for future reference, check all the electrical connections if the truck won't start:idiot:
I confused myself by thinking that the strange sounds the truck made as it ran out of fuel were dire. As it turned out I must have layed a little too hard on a connection while rerouting the pinched...
