Would you trust your engine on a HF stand?

John... I have the same hf 2000 lbs stand but... I fabricated differnt mounting arms for it. I can use the top belhousing holes and... I can use the bottom mount points. I feel this utube guy has his motor improperly mounted to the stand. He is using the two lower bellhousing bolt locations. Thats putting plenty of pull on those mounts plus... He didn't balance the load so its easier to rotate the motor. Thats just plain dangerous to work around. If it fell no way could you get your feed or leggs out of the way. I really don't feel the guy knows much about these motors by the way he is talking about them.... But he sure can post something I can't.....

You can see on the pix I posted how I mounted the engine. Hang the engine level, then adjust the mounting arms to fit. Make sure the bolts from arms to plate are damn tight. That little bar that comes with the stand is useless, I use a 4 ft. piece of 5/8" re-rod to turn the engine, but be carefull when the top comes over if you have the heads on yet. I'm just a little guy 140#. Pull the heads first if your gonna, then work on the bottom side. The guy in the video didn't take anymore video, maybe he's in the hospital. Stupid ass the way he mounted it.

I was using my breaker bars to rotate it, but it would not budge. I was just lifting the whole thing. Maybe if I take it apart and grease the crap out of it.

Ya, they are a little hard to turn. Take the paint off and grease the "crap out of it" I used wheel bearing grease. It takes like a 4 ft bar to turn them over like I said inm the previous post.

I had the 6.9 on the HF 2k model for about a year and it held. I also bent the bar that came with it so I ended up using my engine hoist to help flip it over to check the bottom end.

I am going to look at what I have for stands tomorrow because I have my engine ready to pull out. I took the front of the truck apart today since I already had the transmission out it was too tempting to go ahead and pull the engine to do all the other stuff I need done. I am going to powerswash everything and paint it up. It just looks ugly right now. I might just go with black paint. Eventually I want to pain the truck up with a copper color so I want something to match?

go check out the dealership equipment auctions in your neck of the woods.
I have bought two OTC 4k/lb rotisseries for a fraction of the original price. One went for $40 and the other went for $150(still a bargain)

I'll have to get a pix of the stand I made for rebuilding V730 Allison transmissions. They weigh 1100#. I used a gear reduction like the one in your pix, came off of a chicken feeder, really. Still got one hanging on it for 5 yrs.

It's my understanding that an engine stand is really only designed to hold a short block. It's basically made for installing the rotating assembly. Once your ready to put the heads on, it should be moved to an engine cradle. There is no way I would put a fully loaded IDI on one of these.
