I want to have my injectors rebuilt - They are original to my truck and I would just as soon have them rebuilt rather than getting someone's else rebuilt injectors. The truck can be down for a while... Anyone know of a good source? If I can't do this, what are the best injectors to get, and is there a real advantage to getting new vs. used, or one brand over another? Thanks! --Andy

Buy some new Delphi BB code injectors from somewhere, preferably from Russ (typ4) on this site. He pressure matches his injectors PM him for more info.

Only install a new set of BB code injecters. They are the best for power and economy. I ran several sets of the turbo G codes and they were awful. Low on power and fuel economy. I installed a set of BB codes from typ4 and it was like adding two more cylinders to me V8. A rebuilt set is only as good as the rebuilder. Some of the rebuilds that are talked about here are really terrible. Its just not worth taking the chance. Even buying new you can get a bad one right out of the box. Its best to pop test the new sets. Agnem (Mel) and typ4 (Russ) sell great sets of BB code new Delphi injecters... They are made in Mexico but gees.... What isn't made somewhere else these days....

I like remans because they are relatively cheap and the spring has already taken a seat. In fairness, Typ4 offers to reset the new ones after they seat if you would like, so if the truck can sit for awhile now and again in a few months that is the best of all worlds. Many people simply accept the slight variance this causes and are still very happy with new injectors from Typ4 or Agnem, they deliver a good product at a good value. It is true that with remans there are a lot of cruddy builders out there, some worse than others. There is a lot of labor involved in a reman potentially, so really it can only be effectively accomplished if the injector is still in good enough shape that the nozzle can be reused without regrinding and any issues can be fixed with shims and a thorough cleaning. Even so, expect around $25 per injector for that service. Typ4 can also set you up with remans I think I recall. Injectors are something I'd like to learn how to fix but if the wear is extensive or they gulped bad fuel it probably is best left to the pros for best results.

Just buy the new ones from type4. Nice and smooth right out of the box no worries. Most reputible pump shops have stopped rebuilding stanadyne injectors due to the cost involved in a proper rebuild. It ends up costing more to rebuild the things, if you do it *correctly* than it costs for brand new ones.

I would recommend that you purchase a set of G code remans since you have a turbo from PENSACOLA DIESEL. Just maybe you will get the set I sent back. COST $139.00 -- RESTOCKING FEE $27.80--RETURN SHIPPING $10.95--TOTAL LOSE ON PURCHASE--$38.75

REASON FOR RETURN--Upon receiving them, I pop tested them. #1 Popped at 200 PSI--#2-3-4 popped at 450 PSI. 2nd test--All just squirted rusty diesel fuel. I didn't think they would work too well on a IDI turbo   ;Really

So I decided to tear the four of them down. #1 internals was full of rust. #2-3-4 the pintle's were rusted and springs full of rust. Don't know the condition of the other four, as I didn't open them up, but expect they were the same.

Being all of that said, I don't think the SOB that tested (remaned) them knew what he/she was doing, maybe they used salt water for the test. :dunno

Bill,

In all fairness - a new set of Delphi injectors from Pensacola
on that same order tested o.k. & you increased the pop for me
on all to 1920 before I put them in my truck I believe ..... ;Sweet

I think rebuilt injectors from any commercial enterprise are a mistake

If you can't rebuild your own injectors - buy em' new

Including the set Bill increased the pop on for me,
I have bought (4) sets of new injectors over the
past (3) years from Pensacola with no problems

Pensacola has new sets of (8) for $219.00

Which just proves again what my pump shop guy was saying about reputible shops not rebuilding the things due to the cost of a proper rebuild. Obviously they aren't doing a proper rebuild. Chances are they are just running them through a cleaner and sending them back out, and not even bothering to tear them apart to see if the cleaner did it's job as that would cost too much in labour time.

The shop I use will pop test them and if more that 3 are bad in a set they recommend a new set.

Also, the new ones lose about 100 to 200 lbs of pressure in high use/heat applications. Also I have access to 3 different pop testers, mine will pop the same nozzle at 1850, one of the others is 1700 and the 3rd is at 1625. So I am pretty sure the difference is in the gauge wear and so on, so dont condemn a number from one person to another. look for a good pattern and even pop across the set. At least within 100lbs.

I can appreciate your wanting to keep your original injectors, but truth be told, about the only thing that would be original after a rebuild would be the injector body, which is pretty much a non-functioning part. A rebuilt injector should be rebuilt with a new nozzle, and nozzles are like 80% of the cost of an injector. This is typically why Russ and I do not sell many reman injectors. The cost is so close to new that there is not a lot of benefit in going with the remans.
