I just had mine apart. And if you pull the tower off there's a spring loaded ball bearing in it that centers the side-to-side movement of the stick. And there's these little "freeze plug" like caps on the top of the transmission just behind the bellhousing that holds in the springs for the front to back centering of the shift rods. I probably wouldn't mess with those, but the one in the tower being made weaker might give you the feel your looking for.
But I know what you mean. I put the T19 in my tow truck because I thought my ZF5 was toast, and I REALLY like how "trucky" it feels. I can shift without the clutch, the way it falls into reverse is juussssst right. Unfortunately I can't find a PTO for it, so I m going back to the "too tight" German tranny. Feels like a sports car not a truck. I NEED a little slop!
