Ignition on, 8 second glow plug, depressed clutch, turned key...........Dead. No click. Looked underneath and checked starter wiring and all seemed fine. Got back in, 5 second glow, depressed clutch and bang, started right up. Stopped and started a couple of times after that with no problem. Weird!

That sounds like maybe a clutch safety switch or something. If you had gps and no click on the starter, something wasn't letting the signal get to the solenoid.

Or the ignition tumbler itself. I've had issues similar with mine in the past.

ive had both of these problems.
put a jumper wire in the clutch switch, if it happens again, you have one item deleted from your list.

The clutch safety switch feature is only on American manual shift vehicles. In the UK, where most vehicles are manual shift there is no clutch safety switch because everyone is taught from scratch to start in neutral.
