Vacuum pump question

Checked the vacuum pump with my gauge and the needle was bouncing back and forth between 0 and 10 so I would say my pump is bad. Bought a new one while I was in town, but it appears I need a 10mm end wrench to remove the 3 bolts, and I don't own any metric,end wrenches so I will have to buy a set tomorrow.

If you have a Sears close, they have a real nice set of metric wrenches, one end is open wrench, the other is rachet 12 point. Comes with a nice carry case, I've got two sets of them. Sears has two lines of tools check both out. They are from 10mm to 17mm wrenches.

Seriously consider going with an electric pump off of a SD truck if you don't like messing with belts or tension. Besides they are easy to hook up and will continue to give you brakes even if the engine kills on a hill.

All I have my pump for is my AC controls and Cruise. I went Hydroboost and wouldn't have any other kind of brakes.

FYI - The SD Electric Vacuum pump IS NOT CAPABLE of running vacuum brakes!!!!! All SD Diesel trucks have hydroboost brakes from the factory. The electric pump only runs the HVAC and the ESOF Hubs on a 4x4. They are not rated to a high duty cycle. Many SD owners have burned up the electric pump because of a vacuum leak causing the pump to run more than it is designed.

If you swap to hydroboost, the SD Pump will be more than sufficient for an IDI. Not 100% sure how well it would handle cruise, but to run the HVAC, it will work fine. The cruise in an SD (Actually any PSD) is part of the ECM, it does not have the canister and cable to hold the throttle, as all PSD's are "fly by wire". There is a TPS on the throttle pedal inside the cab, there is no physical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine on a PSD.......
