I was using Krown and rustcheck, both are **** now IMHO....They wash off in the friggin rain....My 06 Mazda B2300 was bone dry underneath when I prepped her for undercoating on Saturday. It was Krowned last year at this time and Rustchecked the year before. My rear x-member that holds the spare is rusted out on the front lip when I took the spare down...It's a 2006 with 189,000KM!!! I was pissed when I saw that.

I took a needle scaler to the frame and any flaking paint on the underside, then I took a blow gun to it - you wouldn't beleive how much crap came off the little truck and covered my shop floor. I then used a gallon of Krown (poured from the bottom of the 45gal drum - thick) that I had left over and soaked the little thing - she was dripping like a cheap ***** on Saturday night.....Our 98 Expedition, 01 Corolla and the F350 are all getting Pro-form dripless oil I bought at Carquest, $94 for 20L....I've had good luck with this stuff in the past. Should do 5-6 vehicles. From now on I'm going to undercoat twice a year, the new undercoating is crap and vehicles today have recycled metal that must be full of impurities that make them rust fast.

Undercoating is a BAD THING. Even though it is widely thought of as a good thing.

Here is why it is bad.

Undercoat adheres to itself very well. BUT it does not adhere to other things so great. So, if/when you get a pinhole or a chip in the undercoat, moisture gets in. Then it cannot get out. The moisture is trapped against the metal, ROTTING it out. And you cant see it until it is too late(aka, you put you foot thru the floor)

At least with paint, if you get a chip and moisture gets under it, the paint will flake off and you can see what is going on

Dry undercoating is a bad thing - yes - but wet, soft, gooey undercoating is what you need. No undercoating up here means you buy a new car every 5-6yrs....Between the salt ocean air, road salt and calcium brine you drive through all winter you haven't got a chance...The 2004 F150 sitting in my yard is a prime example - waiting for it's new frame with 103,000KM.

I painted it on with brush on the frame and the other parts of the underside of the truck. Its holding up good so far and a gallon goes a long ways. Its holding up better than the actual undercoatings Ive used in the past.

I have used eastwoods undercoating and I like it alot, I might do my 77 with zerorust though instead. Its kind of a competitor to por15.

Well fluid film is a lanolin based product, not petro like krown and the likes. Its supposed to stand up to salt spray alot better....

Yes it does harden to a point. It only stays tacky for a couple of weeks. After that you don't have to worry about getting it on you.

PAM, kitchen baking sheet spray! It it like fluid film and creeps into everything and sticks. I do things like the wheel wells and under the floor around all the little nooks and crannies. And I coat the frame with used oil about ever 4 years or so.

More often on my rust friendly Toyota and Mercedes hahaha

I work at Krown right now, and I tell you, I see older cars come in everyday for their annual coating.


One i'm never gonna forget was about a week ago, a 1994 Chevy 2500 ext cab with 490km (306k miles) had been Krowned every single year since new, it was still under Krown guarantee! Not a single spot of rust on that thing!


That's the thing with undercoating, you have to do it right away when the vehicle is new. If you decide undecoating over rust... it's pretty pointless. It will extend it's life abit, but not enough to be worth it. But if you do it straight from the start, every year, it really does help!

Is it similar to Cosmoline?
