I have never heard that. I also have always have thought that the block was improved in the 85 model year instead of 84. I do know for a fact I had an 84 that still had the light block that was prone to cracking, and did at the block heater port.
Also wonder if drilling and tapping the 1/8 oil pressure port to 1/4 would be good for people installing aftermarket turbo kits on their engines. Never seen that step in the instruction manuals so it must not be required.
