Turbo and Intercooler Install on my 77

Put my parts on over the last few weeks. I was told 3 to 5 hours for a ATS install, not on my truck, try 20. Being that an IDI was never meant to be there nothing went as planned. I had to notch my frame for the exhaust, cut the fins and shaved the side off my trans for the down pipe(no you cant bend the firewall, way thicker than my 84!!) the turbo up pipe was jammed up. I couldnt even use the stock airbox I painted up so nice because the injector lines are not spaced out the same as the 7.3 etc. etc alot of small stuff too.

The intercooler was another 20 hours but I expected that since I was making it. Bought the whole kit off ebay for 200 + 30 for a 2in to 2.5in reducer and aout $40 in misc. came out good. I used the stock ats hat and shaved the inlet to 2.5 and beveled the inside. I think it will hold just fine. Then I made a custom intake using PVC and a ginormous air filter, napa 46637.

One question I have is the ATS at lower rpms, the whistle sound kind of pulses. Sooo I took the pipe off and felt the outlet of the turbo while revving and the air pulsed a bit too. Is that normal? Anyone know?

Sweet build! I dont know much about the IDI's. I know someone here knows somethin haha. I'd like to do that kind of build on my 77 F250 Highboy BUT I think i'd like to keep it all original. I think it would be cool to just drop a 70's Ford body on a 99 or newer superduty frame!

I hear ya, Since this truck is far from stock I am going to do whatever I want to it. Its a 77 F250 crew cab body with a 78 bronco back with a 84 6.9 and trans with a 94 idit turbo system on it one of a kind. Not sure what year the axles are but it has a kingpin 60 on the front and a 60 in the rear. I think the front is from the f350 the 6.9 came out of and the rear is the 77 250's. My title says its a 2wd 6 cyl 77 250

as for the lines interfering. i used a brake line bender and tweeked that 1 line that was in the way, first cyl on the driverside. just looped it back down right at the injector, sorta matching the factory turbo lines.

How did you handle the brace for the hood latch ?
What intercooler were you able to sqeeze in there ?

Alright!! Another 77! I like it.

I totally cut off the hood latch brace to fit the cooler. Its fine, these oldies are made of thick steel man! Solid. I have a little less than $300 invested for the cooler, its worth it.

I did post a pic when I first got it, I will try to post some more soon.

Anybody know about the pulse of the boost pressure thing? Just want to make sure the turbo is ok.

Did they really make a centurion Bronco in the 70's? It would have to be a 78 or 79 since they never had a full size bronco in 77. I've only seen the late 80's centurion broncos, my cousin has an 89 centurion bronco 7.3IDI. Hes got pics of it on this site I believe.

I've seen Centurion Broncos from the Late 70's all the way till the Mid 90's...Whether they are actual conversions done by Centurion IDK but I've seen em around.

The first year of the official ford centurion was the first year of the brick nose as far as I know. Everything before then was custom built, like this one. There was another company called Magnum that made 4 doors in the same time period, although they are super rare. There is another style, someone posted on this forum once. It had a really strange roof on it like a bronco ii that did not come off. Not sure who made those.

From the late 1980s through its demise in 1996, the Bronco was also sold at Ford dealerships as a modified 4-door SUV (making it similar to the Excursion or Suburban). These 4-door Broncos were converted by Centurion Vehicles of White Pigeon, Michigan. The conversion involved combining a new crew cab short bed F-Series truck with a Bronco tailgate and fiberglass top. In addition to adding a third row of seats and more room, a Bronco Centurion could be ordered using an F-350 as the donor pickup, allowing the Centurion to have such engines as the 7.3 L (~445 cu in) PowerStroke turbodiesel and the 460 cu in (7.5 L) gasoline V8. Half-ton chassis featured the 351 cu in (5.8 L) fuel injected V8 engine.

The Bronco Centurion could be ordered with options such as a third-row seat that can be folded into a bed, second row bucket seats, a TV with a VCR, and a built-in radar detector.

Bronco Centurions are considered after market conversions. Ford introduced the Excursion as an official production model in 2000.
