it's too bad the only thing Buick was the nailhead valve covers on top of the intake filters. Although the Chevy "W" motor is kinda a rare animal. I bet it's a 348 not a 409.

I think this motor was the best looking motor GM ever made. Those distinctive head shapes were out of this world for the years... 348 or 409... I like them all no matter what.....

I've seen Offenhauser stuff at swap meets, but I've never seen exhaust manifolds like that...

Also another i like is the old GMC 305 V6 (also had larger displacement versions) used in ther 60s pickups and larger trucks

Wow... Would ya look at that engine. That manifold sure is sweet. Gees... The spark plugs are on the inside of the V 6. I'll bet with that cylinder spacing it ran cool all the time. Seems like it needs a few more head bolts around the cylinder too... Nice motor....

They might be old Marine logs, meant to be liquid cooled.

I like the distinctive look of the 348/409 engines, but think it goofy that the combustion chambers were all in the cylinder, not head. From a machining point of view, not an elegant or useful design. VW brought that back in their VR6 engines.

The spacing was for larger displacement without changing tooling. I had a 378 cu. in. V6 like this one, I think all they did was keep putting in larger and larger pistons, maybe more stroke, too. Lots of torque.

Was that "big-block V6" not the base for the 702 V12 "twin-six" GMC engines? The valve covers most certainly look similar...

I only saw it once, it was attached to a well pump or something, it was a farm equipment so to speak. Never did hear it run, it just looked so cool! And now imagine it as a diesel!
