I have had some scary looking glowplugs come out, some look like they actually took off melting and running down in the cylinder:eek: But this is also comming from the guy who runs super high timing and turns 4000 rpmcookoo

Yes, some of the tips have been eroded away, and no I don't have a turbo on this engine, but I still wonder how much "tip" is in my pistons diet. LOL I do believe some of this damage is from advanced timing. I run a wide range of junk fuels, and I half believe there may be some stratification in my WMO tank, so my fuel quality may vary from fill up to fill up. I've been on streight diesel for a few months, but when I run WMO it is usually 80% or better. I currently start and stop on it, but am going to impliment a system that will allow me to start and stop on #2. I just need to get around to putting that in. The injectors were replaced not that long ago. Last spring if I recal, along with the IP. That was when I discovered the coking. This engine has always had a lot of blow-by too, so I know it's running pretty loose. The problem with running WMO, and streight diesel, is going back and forth, and places in between, your timing is never going to be optimal as far as fuel ignition is concerned. Some fuels are always going to burn faster or slower than others, and that may contribute to the errosion.

i wish i had too some pics of the glow plugs i pulled out, some were missing almost all of the tip, it was crazy, there no telling what my pistons look like, probly favor the moon

Ive burned a little over a 100k miles worth in two vehicles. glow plugs failing is common while burning wmo even at lower percentages. I personally will not burn more than 50/50.
50/50 seems to be the least amount of work while still saving a load on fuel. I start and stop on diesel, never run 50/50 while the motor is cold, and never let it idle for long at all on 50/50. Ive seen a 7.3 die from running straight motor oil that was filtered well. this truck was started on diesel and only burning oil once warm. the rings were crudded up terrible and stuck. oil consumption went from next to nothing to around 2 gallons in a hundred miles. This took 35k miles.

Crazy thought: would it be possible to rig the timing advance solenoid to a switch, where you could "adjust" timing when you switched over to an alternative fuel? For example, when I go into WVO mode, I switch tanks. I have a relay coming off the lead that goes pos+ from the selector switch in WVO mode, this controls my VegTherm, and I have an override toggle on the circuit also. Could I tie in a wire to the advance solenoid, would that help with better combustion, or do I have this backwards??

you could tie into the advance solinoid but thats a whole 6* i belive so u would have to retard yours a decent ammount to not have so much timing that that alone would eat GPs just my 2 Cents tho
