IMG_20200620_211302.jpg my 91 7.3idi 4x4 still a work in progress as I'm going to fix cab corners and repaint her. Also going to get iron bull bumpers for her to protect against minor collisions. (That's stock bumper with Rust-Oleum bed liner....super durable as I've done lots of off-roading and back bumper is same and when someone backed into me it didn't even get a mark on it.)

Thanks for the Add and all the detailed info in this forum! I sold my 78 gas, F150 4x4 roughly about 1989 so I recently bought a replacement truck after 30 years. Slightly newer model but my 1st ever diesel. 1990 F250 idi (no turbo) 4x4, unknown mileage. Still go a lot to learn but completed first oil & fuel filter change, coolant check and some other minor repairs & updates. Overall the truck is in decent shape so far, had to replace the hood latch cable and found out the hard way the front tank can't be filled past about 75%. The tank leaks like a race horse when full, so I'm ordering a new front tank and will likely replace most of the fuel lines and sending units while I have it out. This will be a farm/work truck as we build a new house so I'm not planning on a lot of cosmetics but we want it to run well. I'll have a question going into the forum soon on the fuel injector pump, it starts really easily when "summer" cold but about 1/3rd of the time after driving it, it is a difficult hot start. Initial research here somewhat indicates the Injector Pump but I'll need to do some more diagnostics before I pull it and send it out for rebuild. My daughter-in-law summed it up best when she told a friend "Grandpa really has a big smile on his face every time he climbs in his new truck!" Didn't know how much I missed my truck! 1990 F250 idi 7.3.jpg My new 1990 idi 7.3.jpg

    Niiiiice!

    Welcome to the forum.

Next time it doesn't want to start when hot, try pouring cool, (not cold), water over the ip.

83 F250 HD 6.9L diesel i just purchased and repainted. Now appears the Injector pump has failed so i'm scouring the forum trying to see how to find TDC and do the swap with the spare pump that came with the truck!

Start a thread and we can walk you through it (and confirm it is a pump issue0. Don't worry about TDC, the pumps only fit in the gear one way (just don't pull the gear housing).

Hi everyone! New to trucks and new to diesels. Always loved the OBS look and finally came across my dream body style. 1992 f350 7.3L IDI crew cab long bed. 300k miles but starts up real nice and doesn’t smoke! It’s got an older banks sidewinder installed. I plan to do a lot of upgrades and clean it up

A friend recently found this jewel hiding out in the back 40. Going to add it to my collection.

I don't get on here often but y'all always have been there when I have a question.
I figured I would post an update on how my truck is coming along. I have done quite a bit of cosmetic work grinding, cutting and filling rust holes from its life on the farm. Mechanically I have done a clutch ( that was my fault after coating it with brake fluid after breaking a line by accident), and just maintenance type stuff. I did do a 2" lift in the front and 3" in the rear. I also have added a bunch of lights (light bars, pods, and strobes). I got rid of the factory top cab lights and installed little button led clearance lights right above the windshield. I also went from white paint to classic Ford blue.
I still have more to do but it is a work in progress.
Next step I believe will be to make my new front bumper. But I am recovering from surgery on my wrist right now so it may take some time to get it done.

89 cab and chassis (F35?) that was an ambulance at an oil refinery, then a Texas Search and Rescue vehicle. Now, she's ours. We call her "Black Betty Bambalance" after the song of ABOUT the same name (Orleans?). I guess that would get me in trouble with the "Woke" crowd as it's not very politically correct. Oh well.
I had to rebuild the alternator. It was a 200 amp beast. Replace a bunch of exterior clearance lights. Remove the decals. THAT was a pain. Move an interior control panel to make counter space.
Repaired a very large power cable that was resting on the exhaust pipe. Replaced the main battery cables. Dosed it HEAVY with Stanadyne fuel additive. That stuff WORKS!! Yesterday we installed a replacement AC/Heat control panel. Now we have heat and directional control of the air flow. Got to have heat if for noting else than for the defrosters.
Then there is the electrical in the camper part. The panel is set up to use a LiFePO4 battery to run a inverter. The battery can be charged fro solar panels, shore power or from the trucks alternator. (THANK YOU STIMULUS CHECK)
We installed a Gusher foot operated water pump to pump water to a bar sink. The drain will go into a 5 gallon sealed bucket to dump.
Oh, and we installed a composting toilet with a continuous exhaust fan.
I can send pictures if anyone is interested in any of this stuff. BTW, There were already a bunch of extra holes in everything. I guess the Search and Rescue dudes had all kinds of rdios and equipment. I'll find a way to cover them up ;-)

What kind of lights are those small square ones on the lower front bumper? I would like to mount some on the side of my rig for ditch lights.

I'll chime in, a little bit. First off sweet rig!

Those are LED pod lights, I got a similar set off eBay for like $40 for mine. You can find them on Amazon as well. Don't buy the CHEAP $15 ones, but I've had decent luck with the $30 ones. You'll want to compare advertised watts between them. You'll find the super cheap ones are pretty dim whereas the slightly more expensive ones seem to be a good bit brighter.

What a clean truck!!! Very nice. You found the right forum. These folks here have helped me out a bunch, as I am new to the oil burner family. There is just something about fixing things yourself that is very rewarding. People now-a-days just don't get it.

As stated those are pods. Although admittedly I put cheaper ones on. But I got lucky because mine are pretty bright for being the cheaper ones. If I remember correctly I paid something around $40 for a set of 6 on Amazon.
I will be putting better ones on when I build my bumper that I will be putting on. But that may be a little while as I just had surgery on my wrist and am pretty much one handed (and it is my good hand that is useless) right now. Also with hunting season coming in I spend my time in the woods so I don't get much done on anything till January.
