Congrats, thats pretty good milage.

Just Pretty Good,.?,.:dunno That has to be the best mileage in the history of the IDI, and better than most people can claim from any Cummins powered rig.

Mathias took me for a ride as well and it is a very well behaved truck on the road. Something like that would make a great shop truck, might have to build one myself one of these days. Or maybe Taylors first truck ;Sweet

You have reason to be proud, Nice Truck, Nice Job!

I doubt you'd have much problem with something like that in FL but I'm not sure. Some folks want to make us like CA and the other states with CA like emission standards. I have never tried building a homemade vehicle, maybe I need to do it sooner rather than later if I want to.

Souinds like the rules in California will be a blueprint for the rest of the country eventually. Might make what we went through to get this truck on the road look like childs play. Yes, I think this is a new record. Makes me wonder what kind of milage it would get with a turbo, fresh injectors and maybe 200,000 less miles on it. :dunno

Kentuky may very well be backwards, hick, red-neck, and fifty years behind the times, but in many cases, that is not a bad thing.

I can title a homemade vehicle over the phone, without anyone ever actually seeing said vehicle.

They don't care what you change about the vehicle, so long as you come in once a year and pay that figure on the bottom of the yearly reminder.

Kentucky is one of the last bastions that hasn't went completely socialist.

that is how it is here, you could put a 454 in a 88 toyota truck and they wouldnt care at all, you dont not have to have any emmissions on anything were i live dint even have to have a muffler alot of people around here run with headers uncapped:sly

Transmissions and transaxles changes alone are not legal. Transmissions and transaxles can only be changed along with their matching engine. The total engine transmission package must conform to the engine change requirements above.
I don't know how strongly that's enforced. I helped a buddy of mine swap his '99 Dakota from a slushbox to a 5 speed manual in 2005, and AFAIK he's never had a problem with getting it smogged. OTOH, the 318 in his truck was offered with either tranny, so maybe it's allowed?

BTW, for passenger vehicles, CA actually doesn't have an inspection program like most NE states have...the only thing they routinely check is vehicle emissions. Since my truck doesn't get smogged, it doesn't get inspected by anyone for any reason at all. I can see both sides of an inspection program...Midnight Rider made some good points, but OTOH, not having inspections allows someone to routinely drive a junker that has no business being on the road and is a danger to himself and everyone else on the road. My ex-girlfriend's dad took full advantage of that fact...

Mel... Contact Diesel Power mag with this mileage information. I'll bet they would do an article on how to improve fuel mileage doing the motor swap. A person can't po po those numbers.... My 89 Accord gets 32 mpg on the freeways and it doesn't carry near the weight nor can you do much with a 4 cylinder....:sly

just wondering but did you check your mileage traveled with a gps or go by the odometer?

He used his odometer. We checked his speedometer reading against the GPS in the Moose Truck. His speedometer was more accurate than either the Moose Truck or Lady Moose. I'll suggest to Matthias that he submit an article to them on his conversion.

It's true. Matthias got lots of comments on the quality of the ride at the rally, so your springs are working great. ;Sweet
