stock bucket seats from the early 90s

Who has them and how do you like them?
I'm mainly concerned with longer drives since most of my miles are put down in 2 hour stretches.

I have a lead on a wrecker that has a set that are in reasonable shape, correct color and I could get the seats, console and rear cloth covered bench for $200. They will need some cleaning but are otherwise in good condition.

Only real knock I have against them is they lack head restraints but they do have armrests which I often prefer having on longer trips.

So to anyone that has them, do you figure they are worth it? or should I look elsewhere for something comfortable?

They are not on a single frame, so my floor will have to be re enforced. Not an issue for me.

I'm mainly wondering if these will be killer for my back, or if these seats are indeed good for long haul driving.

In the case of my current seats, I made a single adapter frame that the seats bolted on to, then the custom frame mounted to the floor. I've built all aluminum trailers, railings and done major reconstructive surgery on my F150 and have a full metal shop at my disposal so I think I could make it work

Unless you know of a better seat I can look for?

i have the buckets in my 91 and the later models in my 96.

I perfer the buckets from my 91, i have a back injury from when i was younger, that basically after about an hour of being in the car my lower backs starts to hurt then the pain goes down my left leg, shooting pain, then after several hours i cant get out of the car on my own.

I used to use a pillow under my lower back (it was the position of sitting the car and the light vibrations comeing from the road) would make it where a stop every 5-6 hours was the norm

I got the 91 and the buckets in this thing are great, i drove for about 20 hours only stopping for fuel and i had almost zero problems

I like em, but ive always had bucket seats. got the huge center console to.

on the 92-96 the center console was smaller and shorter, but the cup holder are was sunk down not as high up as the lid, also you could take out these plastic bottons to the console allowing taller cups to sink down in the console. skinny w/e never had one spill, been thinking about taking a hole sole to the bottom of the cup holder area on minelol

My Dad used to have similar back problems and also had to use a pillow like you describe when he was driving older fords that had the infamous bench seats (my current F150 being one of them). Not quite as bad as your problem though. But if you're ok for 20 hours, I think they might be enough for me

And yes, that console is pretty big. Nothing in it, but still pretty big. I was thinking it could accomodate a small 12V cooling system with some imagination.

I have captains in my 94 out of a 97 with a center console out of a 89.

I have added a little high density foam in the bottom and a seat cover over it all to make up a little height (since i'm tiny) but i had a bad motorcycle wreck a few years ago so i'm comfortable in the truck for a few hours. Not as comfortable as my Crown Victoria or my Hyundai but more comfortable than my Mercedes which has Orthopedic seats.

I think if you are going to spring for some seats, grab something newer, especially like the power lumbar!

btw i had a 89 supercab before this and i rebuilt the seats with new foam but i still wasn';t happy with the comfort levels.

edit:

btw i'm gonna shove super duty seats in my truck when i get some cash together. Found a nice king ranch crew interior. Bolts in with minor modifications.

stooopid duties are everywhere around here! mostly 2wd ccsb. I kinda like the utilitarian side of my truck. Got cut off by a kia soul with a xtra large soda in the cup holder that went flying forward. Got home and hosed the truck out. those KR seats are awfully nice though. Maybe i'll shove some cloth xlt seats in.

Superduty seats fit? Any writeup on that?? I was thinking the seats I posted earlier would at least "bolt" in, even if some extra backing would be needed after drilling the extra holes.

Some leather seats would clean up a lot better than cloth lol.

I hate my 40/20/40 split seat. It has no support and no cushion.

I already have leather seats, but I'm getting a little tired of sticking to them in the summer or freezing to them in winter. I thought about getting heated leather seats, but this is still a work truck and I'm not sure if I want to spend THAT much on this....
