It depends on what needs work. You can replace the bearings, the tilt pins, the "pot metal" rod that actually makes the ignition work. They can be rebuilt. There are a couple threads where members have rebuilt the column.
One "gotya" on columns. The 80-91 will interchange, but the wheels are different. 92-97 will not swap with the earlier columns or trucks. Also, the 92-97 F-150's have an air bag in the wheel. The column will work, the bag will not function.....
Also, the options are controlled by the horn pad, all wiring in the column is the same. There are auto and manual columns, and tilt and no tilt columns are the only differences. No difference in gasser/diesel except the F150/Bronco with the air bag.
