PSD guys like to do the Stancor relay mod for their glow plug system. This relay is beefy looking, about twice as big as what comes stock on a IDI or 7.3 PSD. So, we decided to do a relay mod for the black truck (88 F350).

But, as we were treading in new waters, we werent exactly sure how to wire it up. So, on the two large terminals we have the battery hot, and the glow plug harness on the other side. One the two terminals we have one grounded, one has the WTS light, and also has the momentary toggle hot switch going to it.

But, even with the WTS light wiring on the terminal that only gets power when the switch is activated, the light comes on whenever the key is in the on position. Can you shed light on this?

Pics to come. This relay is HUGE

Or let me put it this way, what wire would cause the WTS light to be on when the key is in the on position?

the controller has a seperate wire to the wts light. it grounds this wire to make the light come on.

you'll want the switch and the WTS light hooked up to the ground position if you want the light on when you push the switch, also a shorter route since you only need one long wire rather than two ;Sweet

The Ignition wire which is Red/Light Green is not hooked up to anything and is taped up. Does that have a part to play in this picture?

Also when the key is on, pressing the toggle switch turns the wts light off.

1) remove everything from the small terminals of the relay
2) put that red/green wire on one of the small terminals - this is your key-on relay trigger power.
3) put the WTS light wire and the wire for your momentary switch on the other small terminal of the relay.
4) run the other wire from the momentary switch to a good ground.

What happens with this is the glowplugs are activated totally manually, but only when the truck's ignition is turned on, and the WTS light comes on only while you're holding the button. In other words the relay's trigger circuit receives power all the time while ignition is on, but the circuit is completed to ground and the relay is actually triggered only why you're holding the button. Since the WTS light also gets key-on power all the time with the ignition on, it is also only lit when its circuit is completed to ground by your manual push-button.

That was about what we were thinking.

Also, the other thought was to take the WTS light in the dash, and instead of having a power go to it, ground it, that way when we pushed the button it was automatically grounded, and it would recieve power. As of right now if you push the button with the key on, the light goes off.

But, yours sounds right ;Sweet.

When you have both ends of an electronic hooked up to positive it turns them off LOL

Would this be a good replacement for the starter relay :dunno

LOL Yup perzactly why it was shutting off when power was applied. As it grounds out when power isnt, thats why it was on all the time.

It definatly could be used as a starter relay, and its about twice as big so I'm sure it would fair better.

Just hearing the relay click makes you know that its built solid.

I'm down in N.Salem, where di you find the relay they seem hard to find online but around 50$ :dunno

i think the 903 might work too, its rated for 15V which wouldnt be seen at all since the relays would be done working before the alt kicks in anyway so idk... but I wouldnt mind one for the glows and 1 for the starter :sly
