special seal for rear main if its already got a speedi sleeve?

So like it says is there a special seal that I'm supposed to get if my crank already has a Speedi sleeve its a 6.9 that I bought for the 86 with the mystery clatter...well I chased the clatter into the bottom end so I got this and tore it open after firing it on the stand...bearings looked good so I decided to just do a regasket...and I can't get the rear main seal installer even over the speedi sleeve...anyone else run into this??? Is there a special seal?

Just order a new speedy sleeve... It'll come with the correct seal if it's from Ford or International.

if you used the speedi-sleeve from fel-pro, you can use fel-pro's own seal kit without issues.
I have installed countless sleeve and seal kits from fel-pro and never had an issue.
if there is info that you have to use a special seal, i'd like to see the reference.

I agree with towcat. This is first hand experiance talking. Thats what rocks this forum. We are not the "I heard this or I was listening to" .. We do it and then report. I have always used the Ford seal and speedi sleeve paqrt number F2TZ-6701-A. It comes with the seal, sleeve and plastic installer tool plus directions. Those instructions tell you not to oil the seal or remove it from the sleeve. I used asmebly grease and removed it. Then installed the sleeve and then the seal in the back cover. No problems either. Maybe its my magic hands or jst dumb luck but it works. When your sealing up the back cover and the oil pan use extra rtv in that three way joint between the pan, back cover and the block. Thats no place you want a leak and its the first place you will have one. Also never use a pan gasket. They suck and will leak no mattr how well they are installed. The oem pan seal was rtv and it works great mine has never leaked. Permatex copper ultra rtv is what I use..

You might want to cut off the sleeve thats on the crank just because its a used sleeve and you have a new one. To remove a sleeve hit it with a chiesl hard enough to make a dent in it. That will loosen it enough to get ot off easy. Use some type of sealant when the new one is installed or there will be a oil leak past the sleeve to crank fit. I use permatex avaition cement in the white can with the blue writing on it. Its about 2 ozs and you just paint it on with the supplied bruch in the can top.

Is there a groove in the speedie sleeve? If not then you dont have to remove it.

The reason for a sleeve is that the seal will make a grove on the shaft. That groove will not allow a new seal to seat right. An alternative is to position the seal to where it rides on a ****** spot, creating a new groove. This is what I did on the front main

I understand the reason of the sleeve and I do not have a new sleeve I bought a rear main seal kit from fel pro all that came was rear main seal install tool and v gasket

I now wonder if that sel will fit correctly on the speedi sleeve. The seals that come on the speedi sleeves are a special type. They have two lips that seal the shaft. They are not anything like what you have from felpro. Lets hear from towcat again. He may be able to tell you if that felpro seal will work on the speedi sleeve. I'm not sure he read this new information from you yet.

Mine leaked when I did it that way (Standard Fel-Pro seal with a speedy sleeve) Maybe others have had better luck

Read the directions that came with your gasket kit. Mine said specifically to not use included rear main seal with speedy sleeve. Of course I did it anyway
