Finally got around to doing a compression test on my 94 idit.

I did it on a cold engine, 40 -45 degrees in my shop, even though the ford manual called for the engine to be warm, because I had removed all the injection lines in prep to send my pump out for an overhaul. Seemed like a good time to do it without as many obstructions.

Lowest was 450
Highest was 525
this was doing 6 to 7 cranks

I used a harbour freight compression tester that I bought when I entered the U.S. a few years ago, to visit relatives down in the Kansas.
It worked great.

still enough to make you cry
Yeah with that saddle tank empty and the rear one mostly empty I think it was like 36 gallons. Diesel is around $3.20 a gallon here. I usually don't let the tank get too empty but was only using the one. It will be less painful now

Been traveling all around KC area Highways the last couple of put about 250 miles on it with the 4x4 locked in the whole time but the roads have been snow covered and blowing snow. I-49 at 02:45 in the morning was pretty much my own private roadway though but last night on the way home I had a semi completely blast by me and the line of cars I was in, kicked up all that powder and I was completely blinded in the white-out, that dude was driving like the cops were chasing him. by the time I could see I was moved over a lane and much to close to the bridge side wall o_O. Side note-I have to hand it to my work place for this, after they installed some EV chargers in the parking lot they also installed some outlets at some other parking spots specifically for us with diesels to plug the block heaters into after some employees made the request

Now that's fantastic to see.

I have to admit that I have plugged in at work before. It was below 10* and there was a strong north wind. I didn't use a dedicated plug like that one and I didn't have permission, but my Bronco did start after work so I was happy.

My motor is hurt. Got the truck back home finally last week and it still is pushing a bunch of oil out from the turbo drain tube. Noticed an excessive amount of blow-by and decided to run a compression test. Sure enough cyl #1, only had 390 psi, the rest were in the 460 to 520 psi range. Not sure what exactly went wrong, and won't know for sure until I open it up, but most likely it scored the cylinder, perhaps broke a ring, or something similar.

So I tore down my spare motor to make sure that the block was viable. The seller had thought it spun a bearing, so I was worried the main bearing bores may be wiped out if that indeed was the case. Luckily, it had not. However, it did hydro-lock #7, but there doesn't seem to be any block damage. In fact, the pistons and bearings look brand new, and everything is still standard dimensions. I am thinking someone did a quick rattle can rebuild on this one, tossed in new bearings and pistons, and then hydro-locked it after only a few hours of run time. It then got (angrily) yanked out and set aside until I picked it up. So off to the machine shop it will go to get cleaned up and bored out to match the set of pistons I have on the shelf. I will then re-assemble the short block and swap it out with the short block in my truck. Fun times....

Dang where can you buy angled connecting rods, I bet those are great for reducing compression ratios!

Got my cruise working for the first time in over 2 years . Did a hydro boost swap so had to make a new dump valve plate, fix the speed sensor and wiring to it, horn pad, and cruise control amplifier
Is it pretty? No
Does it work? Yes

I haven’t tested it too far yet need to do a long test but my super duty electric vacuum pump kept up for the short duration I’ve tested so far
