@Nero What controller did you go with? I need to eventually replace the old one in my truck, the wiring is super sketch. When there are house wire nuts involved it makes me have zero confidence in it LOL

I was at it again today. None of this was for me though. This was for a younger guy who moved into a trailer just a couple of months ago. His only heat is a wood burning stove. I'm the one with the chainsaws so I volunteered. I'm friends with his parents and I don't want to see anyone go without heat if I can help it. The "some wood" that he still had was about doubled by this load unless he had some somewhere that I didn't see. I did some running around this morning before starting to cut to try to let it warm up a little bit. It didn't work. When I left town this morning, it was 14* and it didn't take long for the wind to start blowing 25-30 with gusts of up to 45. It was sunny and we were close to an abandoned house so we could get out of the wind and it didn't feel too bad then. The worst part is that his stove is small so I can only cut lengths of about 8"-10". That makes it take a lot longer. I mentioned cutting some more next weekend, but now the forecast is for more temperatures about like to day so that will probably have to wait. It wasn't very much warmer when I got back to town, but at least the wind had died down to about 1/2 of what it was earlier.

Gave the old gal a wash today. Also washed my old mans rv hes selling, along with my camper, the driveway, and part of the sidewalk... Time to dry out before I get trenchfoot.

New tstat and water pump install went well on the idi. No more squealing at higher rpms now with better belt tension.
Old tstat was functioning fine but with a new motorcraft unit the operating temp has dropped from around 203* to just above 190*.

Learned a lot.

Tdi needs a tstat too which seems to be the root cause of recent low mpg issues. According to VCDS operating temp doesn’t get above 165*

@Kdo58 watch out for this thing on your master cylinder

It is a residual pressure valve for the drum brakes and it will hold a set psi of pressure on the brake line for the rear set and on the new disc brakes it is like driving with the emergency brake set. I had to take the guts out of it because I could not find a direct fit reducer

sounds like a disc brake conversion is in your future. ;) or maybe there is something wrong with the holes the springs go in and you just need a new backing plate. not sure if those can be replaced easily or not.

I agree, the backing plate doesn’t seem in horrible shape. The inside has a slight collar/ridge on the brake shoe side but it’s not excessively wallowed out.

I replaced the parts and wound some galvi wire around things to see if anything changes.
Just the forward spring was missing now the rear - rear passenger side brake/wheel.

With the snow coming and I have to start traveling to work about 3 a.m. Saturday about 50 miles from the house to the plant. I thought I had better finally install the tank selector valve and new front tank I have been putting off. Got it all in and filled them up ( wholly cow $$$) out with the old
