Did a compression test today so thought I'd pop in and share the numbers.

February 2020
1 - 370
2 - 380
3 - 375
4 - 360
5 - 370
6 - 380
7 - 380
8 - 370

October 2025
1 - 420
2 - 430
3 - 440
4 - 450
5 - 425
6 - 435
7 - 445
8 - 430

The compression test in 2020 is when I started using full synthetic instead of Rotella T4 and also when I started using Engine Restore additive. I seem to remember I might've skipped the Engine Restore at one oil change but otherwise I've been consistent with using it. Both tests were done with the same compression tester and at the same elevation (kind of high elevation here). The electrical was upgraded between tests. Better batteries and cables and a new starter. That might have helped a little. I was pretty pleased with the numbers. Interesting that cylinder 4 was the lowest compression in 2020 and the highest in 2025.
That’s super interesting! Didn’t know it was possible to fix low compression without rebuild

Do you know previous history of this engine? And where both compression tests done roughly at the same mileage after adding restore?

I don't know anything truly specific about the previous history of the truck other than it came with a little maintenance record booklet in the glove box that the original owner kept rather meticulous records with and did a pretty good job apparently maintaining the truck. There is a change of handwriting somewhere around 100,000 miles if I remember right (I don't have that booklet in front of me at the moment) and then the records get more spotty but they are still recorded. This leads me to believe there were two previous owners before me.

I bought the truck around 180,000 and I'm only creeping up on 205,000 now (yeah, I don't drive it much). When I did the first compression test I don't remember exactly if it was right before or right after I used the first can of Engine Restore. I wish I did remember, but I don't. I know I have used 3 cans of Engine Restore since I did that first compression test though because I remember how many I bought back then when I stocked up on oil changes ( I like to keep a few oil changes worth of oil/filters/etc stored away) and I've since used them all. Right now I'm 3,700 miles from my last oil change so 1,300 more miles to go. I had no specific rhyme or reason to choose yesterday to do another compression test other than it has been more than five years since the first one and I just felt like it.

Thanks for asking.

Finally got the garage straightened up enough to start the home run drive train completion on the C350.
Insulated, organized, repaired the LP furnace, will be a lot better than shivering in a HF portable canopy this winter.

A big thanks to @Nero for selling his unused hydro PS unit.
Now the axle swap begins with front and back RS kits.

After I put the truck together after having the cab off getting everything right, and running awesome.
I’ve been able to focus on the smaller things like plate and reverse lights, horn, fully working power window and door locks
And I was able to get this kit to install keyless entry in it is a nice touch symbolizes completion in a way. Short term of course be many years til I can afford paint and a total interior redo

Make sure the return Hose at the Booster is clamped really well.
The hose seems rather soft, and I tightened mine pretty firm,
w/o squishing the rubber around the Hose Clamp.
Drove around for a week or more, then took a trip to Corpus Cristy, Tx. 1800 miles ea way,
ended up being 4K miles time we got back.
On the way home coming through Los Cursis, NM. the Power Steering make a horrible noise
applying the brakes. Saw a NAPA and pulled in. The return hose had come off the Nipp le at
the Booster.

Bought a couple quarts of new fluid, and all was well. The supplied Nipp le is fairly smooth with
the one ridge at the top to hold the Hose on is rather small.
I really cranked down on the clamp this time.

I sent BBB an e-mail today giving him an up date, and asked if there is a better fitting. And maybe
a right angle one, and with some barbe to bite into the Hose so the hose doesn`t have that curve going into it.

Over all Iam pleased that I have brakes that work, and not the iffy Vac Brakes.
The Vacuum Pump and Hose and Belt are gone.

That sure is a nice looking shop you have.

Did you T the two return lines, or use a hydro unit with two return ports? There's enough room on the top return to add another clamp. Haven't filled it yet, so might just do that. Appreciate the heads up.

Thanks, spent the summer working on it. Dropped two box truck loads of stuff at a auction, made enough to pay for the materials to upgrade.

My return from the Hydro goes under the reservoir with a "T" there, then to the oil cooler.
I notice your reservoir it has the connection on top.
The hose from the Steering Box. I used the Hose end with right angle fitting at the box, it
curves towards the front of the truck, and comes around the side of the over flow Bottle to
the hydro. Made a bracket out of 1" x 1/8" alum. flat bar. Inch or so bend with a 1/4" bolt to
the inner fender and a 1/4" bolt at the top with a rubber hose clamp to hold it from flopping
around. The bracket is about 6" tall. Sits close to the Bottle. I eliminated the washer bottle.

I did need to tweek the metal line at the Steering box a little to be able to screw the black
fitting into it.
Each persons truck will have some small differences to it I guess.
Over all it was worth the swap.

I was concerned about the increased return volume from the hydro unit, with skin effect restrictions, along with the turbulence at hard 90° fittings, the net result would be a higher return line pressure and a potential restriction of overall circulation, which was the main motivator for me to upgrade the pump.
I'm a total noob when it comes to these rigs, but I've worked electro-hydraulics repair in manufacturing and oil fields, and now am stuck getting all OCD, spending over budget, and taking three time as long to get it done.
Heh, I even retapped the ps pump mount threads, and ran the bolts through a die, if the bolts didn't clean up to satisfaction I would have just replaced - it's THAT bad...

Went to PNP at the Sparks yard east of Reno. with the intensions of getting the
Bell Housing, 2 Fenders and the Peddle assy.

Of course DA didn`t bring any Metric Socket sets. There are a few Metric fittings.
I was thinking, it`s a Ford = SAE,,,,wrong. I knew better.
But have one black cloth HF too bag wit assortments of ods and end sockets, extensions
and all the swivel,1/4 to 3/8" , 3/8 to 1/12" etc... all pushed together.
I had enough metric to sort of get me through. arg...
Usually I have every tool I own, and can hardly move my Wheel Barrow.... yeah I bring
my own with me.
Did bring the DeWalt 1/2" impact, Saws all, and hammer drill or what ever they call it.

This 83 doesn`t have any rust, but the Screws, nuts sure were rusted. like the 4 under
the dash for the Booster/Peddle assy. what gives with that? Only got one nut off.
Had my kroil, but pulled the Cap and the spray button was missing. ;Pissed

Pulled the Steering Column and threw in the Bed. Has tilt and was messed up.
People before me cut out the Floor, so that was fun reaching under the dash with it gone.

Got the bell Housing out, but had to use the saws All to cut out the top of the floor sheet
metal and bend back to get to the top 2 bolts.
Iam thinking with the compressed 42 year old Cab Mounts is why they are a bear to get to.
When I replaced the Clutch in my 86, I had to cut 2 slots in the pinch welt and bend it back
on ea side to access the Bolts.
It was a lot of struggle, but I won. Think it was 19mm/3/4" sockets.

Some where there is a bolt or 2 I missed on the fender. Of course the little screws that
secure the plastic inner fender won`t unscrew...
Got home and searched how do these fenders come off?
Hood was already off , the hood hinge bolts to the fender, it needs to be braced or removed.
OH well back to the drawing board...

So I came home with the Bell Housing
Instrument Cluster, which I found in the bed, wonder it wasnt broken with all the stuff thrown
in/on it.
And the Over Flow Bottle. Was in good shape surprisingly. Usually has cracks.

After many weeks of procrastination... I finally checked my timing. Solid 8°, so I think I'll leave it there, don't feel like messing with it to get it at 7°.
I also was looking into my headlamps, since doing the HID swap, during the last trip the passenger side stopped working. No idea what it was, but swapped the bulbs from side to side and now it's working again. On another note, those high voltage warnings are no joke, I shocked the sh*t out of myself testing it. Luckily I can check my EKG and I'm normal, so no heart attacks for me.

On another note, finally got my butt down to the hardware store and got some pipe insulation for my fan shroud, and some new tie hooks for the bed.

It was a busy day for the truck. Im needing to get some batteries, because I got one shot to crank it up from cold and it just isn't spinning over fast enough after its warm. So I leave it running while im out, not a big deal for the "tow pig", it'd be an issue if it was still my driver......but anywhooo.......let's see. First thing was I ran a few hundred pounds of scrap metal and got some money with the Ole girl......hmm mm, used some of that cash to top off my front tank with clean diesel......then I came home and grabbed my hay trailer to get some hay and just as I was getting outta town I saw this.....on side of the road......3 mostly flat tires.......appeared abandoned......went back and looked. It was in front of a big farm/estate.....set by the road to be picked up by a lucky passer by......it just happened to be "The Jesus Freak" 1989 trx350 4x4......engine free, gots compression.....I'll tell you what I find on the 3 wheeler thread! IM STOKED!!!

oh yeah, i did actually go get hay. I wasn't so completely distracted that i forgot. My hay man picked the honda up with his tractor loader and set it on back of my truck so we could put hay on the trailer. All of life isnt about ATVs.....cows matter too....
