well now that its getting colder here in Michigan seems like my truck don't warm up, nor make that great of heat... all i have is a factory gauge right now but you can still tell its not warmed when the heat blows warm instead of hot...

now my truck don't get much time to warm up till i hit the free way which is a 30 min ride them im off and 2 miles down the road is work ... so i understand im flowing tons of air into the rad..

so my question is should i block the rad some....

this motor is unknown mileage but i put a new water pump and tstat in like 2 weeks ago when i installed it.. and it runs like a sewing machine it dont run hot any at all and before the temp dropped below 50ish it didnt have any prob...

With that amount of time running the engine is plenty warm to make heat in the duct work. Do you know what thermostat is in the engine. Are the air ducts opening and closeing properly. These are a few places to look for answers.

Clogged heater core, or your air mixture door could be blocked open. My engines have always been able to blow hot air after about 10 minutes of running at idle speed, and after 5 minutes of just driving.

get a real temp gauge. my truck was like that as well. a new rad and heater core later i have good heat.

i put a stant t-stat in... the one thats just like the oem motorcraft

it had a real gauge till i over heated the old motor so bad it ruined it.. yes it got really hot thats why i found a different motor......

the rad gets pretty warm/hot after being ran, and if it sits for a little(hour or so)it will fire up with out glow plugs. so im sure its getting warm but not warm enough to make good heat..

i didn't own the truck much in the cold but it seemed to be ok at the beginning of the year( around march)

Get rid of the Stant thremostat. This forum hads posted many time about anything but a Motorcraft thremostst. running anything but a motordraft stat is going to fail. These engines can't operate safely or happiley with any other stat. Many have come here with these issues about cooling systems not operateing properly. The ONLY correct thermostat is this one..E5TZ-8575-C... Thats the motorcraft part number. It opens at 192 degrees and is fully open at 212 degrees. they a special high flow design and nothing else will work. Many others will fit but they just don't work. there is a stat made in china that really looks just like our oem but... Its differant and it has failed several members. It breaks the body and it jams cloed or open depending on hoe it breaks. For the price its just not worth the risk of burning up the engine... running without one is only something I would do to get home or out of the fire in the back country. No stst will cause the coolant to flow thru the block bypas and skip going thru the radiater. Its unsafe too but to get out of a tuff place you will do anything...

Ya get a Motorcraft stat. And as mentioned above, check that your blend doors are opening properly. Also add a signature so we know what year truck and engine etc...

i thought the stant t stat from napa was the right one.????

i had one in the other motor and it preformed great.. guess that dont mean anything

i checked the blend door when i thought the a/c wasnt blowing enough it looks to be closing all the way? maybe not..

Nothing works like the original factory designed thermostat.... you proof of that as many before you have tried others. the outcome is usually the same... Not cooling or not heating up enough to make heat in the cab... It a simple fix too. Just have to remove a few parts but the actual thermostat is simple. Just make sure the bypass ball bearing is free in the housing and the gasket is placed properly. Some of us have allowed the gasket to shift and it makes a leak well after the system pressurizes. then you tear into it a second time... Kinda embarrassing too.

i just pulled a bran new thermostat outta a truck it had some metal clips in it that i kid you not left the thermostat stuck open i will get the part number for that thermostat and post it if you would like first time it opened left it open thats all i know
