Running WMO in truck with new pump and injectors?

I have run wmo before and had no problems. I had g codes and a pump with who knows how many miles on it. I just got pump rebuilt and bb codes, should i run wmo? I have a good supplier whom only puts oil in the containers and the oil is always from gas cars and trucks. I filter it through two fuel filters, not sure of the micron or severity of how small of particles it filters, but i thought two fuel filters would be enough. What do you all think? was thinking of running 50% or so wmo and 50% diesel.

You could run it through 100 filters and still not be filtering out the gunk. The micron count is what matters. You need to know how clean your wmo is before you dump it in to your truck.

I'm running wmo with new injectors. My truck loves it. I'm currently running w95.

W95 is Waste 95% . I'm running 95% used oil and 5% stale gas. My last batch was actually about 99% oil and 1% stale gas.

I filter down to 0.5 micron. Some people filter theirs far less but in this case the more effort you put into making your fuel the better your results will be.

Fuel filters are generally as low as 5 microns. So I have been told by a special person that really knows his stuff...:sly:D:hail Distilling the used engine oil is a better way to get rid of the harmfull crap in the oil. Fractionating the oil makes the heavy stuff drop out and the vacuum on the colum makes the oil become a vapor at a lower temp. then it raises up the cloum and condenses back to a liquid... Really the same method of how bootleggers make their stuff only they didn't have a vacuum on the still..:D

Distilling wmo? Sounds neat. Never heard about it. Centrifuges are reusable ..

I mix a large amount of stale gas in my WMO in so the viscosity is about the same as diesel. Usually this is somewhere around 40% stale gas. The gas allows most of the trash to settle saving filters and it increases the flow rate. I have a holding/mixing tank and then a storage tank. I filter once into the storage tank with 10 microns and then let it sit again in the holding tank, pump it through another 10 micron filter into the truck's tank. I always pump as far off the bottom as possible., usually never below 6" in my 275 gallon totes.

I as running this in both my truck with rebuilt pumps and new BB injectors.

Would you take your filtered waste oil and use it in the oil pan of the engine? If no, why not? Besides it possibly not being the correct viscosity, or some of the "goodies" are worn out of it, would you put it back in the engine? The injection pump is a machine in itself, with close tolerance parts. So there really is no difference between it and the engine's moving parts. Anyone who runs waste motor oil knows this, and decides to take the risk anyway because of the fuel savings. The guy who rebuilds these pumps on here has warned about this several times. It's your decision.

The differences are the engine bearings require a lot more lubrication than the pump. The pump is designed to be lubed by diesel fuel which has far less lubricating properties when compared to engine oil.

Plenty of people have already been doing to for tens of thousands of miles. I have 5k on one of my trucks sine the new pump and injectors and probably another 3k on my other one after the new stuff. I'd still be ahead of the game if I had to change everything again.

Pump builders don't warranty with the use of WMO because there are people who will just dump it with tons of crap straight in the tank and expect everything to be ok.

In 5k miles you can easily have saved enough for a new fuel system. I've already passed that mark and am ready to replace it when the time comes. Anything beyond that point is money in my pocket. I don't see anything failing anytime soon, at least not from the wmo. I cut it to the viscosity of diesel which takes very little gas because my oil is already thin.

Waste motor oil be it from a diesel or gas engine will have diesel or gas in it already making it thinner. Add in some viscosity improver in the oil that has not worn out yet and we realy don't know what the voscosity of the preped wmo fuel is unless a hydrometer is used. Centerfugeing it works very vell but distilling it is the only real way to get rid of the harmful byproducts in it. All fuels and oils have been distilled. The higher grade oils and fuels come off the distallation towers higher up on the colum. I think benzene is the highest and lightest. Then white gas like used in colman stoves. The heavy bottms are the oils. Those go thru other distalltion towers. Now every gallon of gas we use in engines has to be "washed" to get rid of the byproducts in it after its made. Some of those chemicals are metta, phenol crycilic acid and many more. The gas is washed thru caustic. Then you have useable gasolene but lots of spent caustic. That spent caustic is a waste that used to be unuseable but.. I worked in a chemical refinery and the owner was a genious. He figured out how to cut the spent caustic and sell back to those oil companys the very stuff they paid him to haul away un bulk. Those goys developed an industry and created an bulk hauling tanker truck company. So they made money hand over fist. Towards the end the oil companys were chargeing for the haul away. Nothing was patenet so nobody knew how we were doing what we did. Those chemical refinerys are long gone now and what I know is not important any longer. For way too many years I was not allowed to talk about what we did. I really don't know if I can talk about it now but feel its ok. This was way back in the 70s. We signed all kinds of docs saying we would never explain nor profit from what we knew. I really liked the lab at work and the research lab was better than frankstines lab. All the glass distallation colums across the walls packed with all the rings creating the easier fractionixation process. Today these chemicals are a horrible mess to work with. Benzene is a known cancer causer chemical. We had one tower just for that product. I worked in the AP plant. That was the acleated phenols plant. We made some horrible chemicals like P.I.P.P. Para iso propal phenol. P.S.A. Phenol sulfonic acid and many more...

Great read Gary!

The oil I'm using now is used cutting oil. After letting the metal settle it looks like brand new oil, pure honey. I love this stuff.

No, neither would I ever think of filling my crankcase with ULSD.

If your IP has a warranty, I'd think twice before making your fuel black. Most fuel shops including mine will look very harshly at a pump coming in that was running on WMO. No matter how you filter it, it's still black, and that black stuff is soot. That stuff grinds the insides of pumps up like you wouldn't believe. It IS a valid economical decision to run WMO. I did it myself for years. However, I can tell you this. WMO is decreasing the number of viable head and rotor assemblies that are out there. This means as the supply of cores is depleted, more shops are going to be buying more heads and rotors. That's bad news, because that turns a $600 IP into a $1000 IP. And guys like me who average out the cost of rebuilds to offer a fair exchange price, are going to have to up their price. Like I am. In April. So running WMO I guess you could say is a very socialist way of saving money. It gives savings to the guy who runs it, while it adds cost to the guy who doesn't.
