Hmmm... Can I have that diesel when you're done? We're at a lovely $6.19 over here. Filled my tdi up and it was a cool $105 today
Ugh, don’t remind me. I was just telling my wife that I’m about to pour out 4 gallons of diesel for this cleaning.

I doubt this diesel is worth saving, right? All I have is 1 fuel filter.

That’s what I thought. I opened up the radiator cap and didn’t see any coolant in there. Maybe the truck is low on coolant and that’s why I’m not feeling any heat nor hearing it sizzle.

Yeah, there’s solids present in the fuel. Maybe I could pour the diesel through a cheese cloth into a gallon bucket and feed it back into the tank that way.
Wouldn't be a bad idea. Cheese cloth, coffee filter, or just the regular filter itself, it'd be fine. Only time I wouldn't consider it is if coolant or DEF got mixed in.

Good to know, thanks!

I’ve heard the injector pump is extremely sensitive to dirty fuel so I thought it was better to play it safe. Good to know a little dirt will be picked by the filter.

I have a chassis wiring schematic for a 1983 to 1986 glow plug system.

I see there’s a sequence of events. There’s numbered segments. There’s vague (to me) wire paths. There’s labeled components.

If I open up a hood I could point out and replace a harness, an alternator, a starter solenoid, a starter, etc. But my brain breaks when I look at it diagramed out. But I’ve got to figure it out because not understanding how to read these things really holds me back as a shade tree mechanic. I can’t diagnose and troubleshoot nearly as effectively until I do.

I’ll pursue YouTube for good videos to help explain how to read these diagrams better.

Things that can't be filtered by the filter I'd be worried about. Solids and stuff larger than 10 microns will be caught. You'll be good!

In order for it to be that low on coolant, your cooling system would have to be almost completely dry. The block heater sits at almost the very bottom of the cooling system which is a good place to have it. Heat rises. That's MUCH better than the fuel heaters that sit at the highest point in the fuel system on 7.3 systems. At least the ones on the 6.9s sit lower and, in theory, could actually heat the fuel in the filter.

Meh, if there's no solids that you can see, run it back into your tank. I'm sure someone's run worse... Looking at you @Jesus Freak
Early on in my WMO career, I clogged a BUNCH of filters. I'm way better at it now. And I picked up 140gals of free fuel day before yesterday, which gave me a lead on @500gal of free fuel that I'm getting on Tuesday.......... with good filtering and/or centerfuging these trucks will drink most anything.

Didn’t get to glow plugs and injector lines like I wanted to today. The plumbing had other plans and Sewage backed up into the tub.

So I found a sewage clean out (on the house side, not the city side) and ran the worlds ********* 1/2” drain auger through the clean out.

After I pulled out gobs of toilet paper, hair and ****, I finally reached the root of the problem by finding actual roots that grew into the sewage line and blocking the sewage drain. I must’ve pulled out 4 different balls of roots just like the one pictured. The one pictured is about 16” long!

Roots sense water through the old clay pipes and home in. I had to that every year or so, in my last house.
