Remotely mounted Turbo?

I've seen this done in other applications, so why not on ours? Basically, you mount the turbo behind the cab, and pipe it forward to the intake or intercooler.

The more I think about it, the more I'm liking it.

This means, longer boost lag, lower peak boost, and lots of loss for basically everything... and temperature issues

You want your runs to be as short and direct as possible. Unless you are trying to cram a compound dual turbo system in, it does not make sense.

If you have a compelling reason to do so, try it out and report back.

Also, do some measuring. By the time you straighten out all the plumbing from the manifolds to the turbo, It's not but a few inches longer to mount it behind or under the cab. And I actually have thought about doing this with twins. Maybe find myself a pair of T-5's or something to play around with.

Will do. Just gotta do some math to make sure a pair of T-5's won't melt my motor.

They should probably be ok as long as you are careful. Flatlander found he could run the compound turbochargers, a Banks Sidewinder and a PSD turbo and everything was ok until he added the Moose Pump, the stock pump only would make 11psi or so, the Moose would make 18psi but then the head gaskets let go. Oh yeah with the stock pump he had plenty of room to play with EGTs. It sounds like a great project and will help that F-Superduty be more enjoyable and a better work tool. A stock pump will not make enough fuel to melt the motor and a Moose would be a great choice but there you would have to watch your gauges.

I'm not talking about compounds, just a tandem set up. There's also a factory re-man Garrett on craigslist for $350.00 Never installed.

I've also got to figure out the oiling system. Will the oil pump push the oil back to the engine against gravity? I can't imagine why not, but better to ask.

No, On a remote mount you have to get an electric oil pump to return the oil to the engine or the oil will pool up in the turbo and you will start inhaling it.

Yeah I thought I recalled Barney using some sort of pump as the return on his compound system.

you can also run a self contained cooling system running oil or coolant. A hobb switch would be used to turn pump on and off.

i have a buddy trying to talk me into attempting a dual compound turbo (2 turbo's a side) with the smaller turbo's on the engine and the larger turbo's mounted remotely

personally i think something that extreme though would push the heads through the hood
