I want to say grey. Im going to take a pic of it when I get a chance. But it doesn't seem like white smoke and certainly not blue

Yes. In fact, with my 7.3, and when I wasn't burning up glow plugs, my egt's ran around 600 when at 60mph. Now there at 800.

That's an accurate spot but a bull moose can get the EGTs high quick.

I had the bull moose on with my 7.3. And I did not observe such high egts. I'm wondering if the timing was retarded, would I see higher egts

It can go both ways. But generally (iirc) overly advanced is typically grey, overly retarded is black.

You can buy an insert with same thread, bore it out and braze it into the injector port. But you will have to pull the Head. Or you can exchange it out for another rebuilt head. If it were mine I would buy another head. Sorry for all your problem but I am sure you will have her up and running Soon. Good Luck
