If you have a press thats the easy way... Or heat it up to no more than 250 degrees and then press it off. That allen screw that keeps the gear on the cam gets 24 lbs of torque...:rotflmao

I think you are talking about the gear. I pulled it with a wheel puller. I want to remove the front part of that. Which includes the cam for the fuel pump and the retainer for the cam. I did get lucky when I pulled the allen out, as it is the EXACT size of the Cobra rockers with the GT40 heads (94-5) which I had already purchased a few years ago when I did heads on my first Bronco engine.

I just do not see where I would brace it and press it.

Sorry to ask, but what is funny about that torque rating for the cam bolt?

probably the fact that it takes a 20-ton press (I'm being facetious) to press off the gear, but only 24 ft/lbs to hold it in place?

Yea... Thats it..... Its almost nothing for torque. The perss fit is what holds it in place... When you get this geat off the cam look closely at it.... If you see 2 drilled and tapped holes for a puller then thats the older gear and its not balanced. Buy the newer geat without these drilled holes and it will run smoother. It willl have a balance lug cast into the back side of it.

Okay...without delay, here is a flashback to the oil cooler.

In the end caps, you can see where the ends had collected a TON of RTV that had passed through the cooler. Some of it collected in the end tank there. Only the passages that are open through the bundle are ones that were not blocked. The RTV had actually sealed its self in the rest of the passages. Two passages had some sort of what I believe was stop leak. I was able to clean ONE out, but the other was to packed. I tried a drill bit, pick, and hanger. I got too scared that I may send the sharp end through the tube that I figured I would just leave one not working.

This is the ONLY O-ring available that I know of for the 6.9 (6 o-ring) cooler. They are the same as the ones for the 7.3.

With the weather wet and nasty, a bit of surface rust.......surfaced. You REALLY need to be careful that you do not take off too much material since it is a press fit. Steel wool and REALLY fine sand paper. I think it was 1500.

Though all of the pictures are not clear, you can see that the bearings have...texture to them. It looks like the cam froze and then spun 180* taking some of the babbit material with it, deposited it on the bottom side, and then continued to spin.

Most of the lobes look pretty good. There looks like there is some light pitting in some of them from what looks like they may have rusted to the lifter.

This is why I think it has a bunch of miles on it.

That is where the fuel pump has worn into the eccentric on the front of the cam.

That one is a junker. I would hate to have you send it and it have be of no core value. If it was cheap to ship we could get an asessment from the grinder.

Do they not weld them up before they re profile the things, or does that place just grind down what's there?

Why do these look different? Missing a retainer for the inside Oring?

87 was a weird year for these trucks....

LCjeff

OBTW I believe you will need 2 pairs of o rings in 2 different sizes.
If you need the part #s for ford just ask, I'll post them.
