Calling any ford mechanics out there......

My truck has started making a 'spun bearing' or 'dry pump' type noise upon startup. Lasts for just a second or two after the truck starts, which it always starts immediately upon cranking, so..

crank, fires and runs smoothly, strange noise, noise off, smooth running

a friend thinks it is the starter motor has a bad bearing and the noise is it spinning down after cranking. He also mentions something about a starter motor 'brake' that is supposed to get it to stop spinning quicker after disengaging from the flywheel??? to me it seems to stop making the noise too quickly for it to be the starter motor spinning down.

I have noticed that the ABS light goes out pretty much in sync with the noise stopping. Is there anything in the ABS system that needs to 'pump up' before the light goes out? why exactly does the ABS light come on for a few seconds after the vehicle starts?

Thanks for any help

The system has a self test which starts with a bulb test. That is why the lites come on for only a moment. PM me your E mail address and I can send you more info.
