1993 F250 7.3 IDI E4OD 280,000 miles... ABS Light remains off until a moderate braking event - then light remains illuminated until the engine is shut off. Red brake warning light sometimes lights simultaneously. Truck always brakes as well as it ever did when new. ABS on the rear axle never impressed me - it's all original. I replaced the master cylinder 3 years ago, booster is original. I cleaned up all connectors and ground points a year ago when I was repairing flashing OD light issues. That's all good now. Fluid is up, no leaks that I can see. The ABS light does seem to be lighting more often lately - whatever the issue is it's getting worse. I don't care about restoring ABS functionality since it never seemed to do anything anyway. Any ideas what's happening?

We won't know until you pull codes. I personally am a fan of the RABS, it's saved my bacon a few times.

Full disclosure even if it's embarrassing.... I topped off the master cylinder and a 120 mile round trip ride yesterday (hauling a light dump trailer with a wood splitter in the trailer) and no warning lights. The ABS light threw me is my excuse. Probably this winter I'll replace the front calipers and pads - and maybe even the rotors since I have not thrown a single part at this old friend in over a year.

Had same issue this summer. ABS come on and then go off. That went on for a few days and then was just on. Did a little research and found that low fluid could be an issue. Checked and it was. The things one learns.

My ABS light was stuck on/off and intermittent from a host of issues like low brake fluid, air in the RABS unit after a master cylinder/booster replacement, as well as a faulty rear diff sensor. After a second thorough bleed, a new rear diff sensor, and RABS bleed I haven't had any issues. The brake light can also turn on and off if your vacuum pump is getting weak or leaking air somewhere in the system. Definitely do a vacuum check to make sure it's building pressure. If your E-brake pedal isn't adjusted correctly it can also cause the light to come on and off. Just my O2.
