Pushrods Copper End???

I'm ready to install all new pushrods and need to know if the copper end fits the rockers or the roller lifters??? Thanks guys. Heads are torqued to 110 lbs. First step was 60 lbs. Then 90 lbs and after that I used 110 lbs following the line pattern. When I had just started the 90 lb pass the second stud made a really loud CRACK!!! WTH....... It sounded like I broke Kens studs.... It turned out that my torque wrench slipped because I was pushing it on top where the reversing clicky was. Its happened before on wratchet wrenches before. Its just the way I'm holding them. It sure did scare me for a minute.

There's a post around here with a pic of a pushrod sticking out the valve cover but I can't find it.

AllData says put them in the way they came out.

If I had to guess it would be copper up for the rubbing action of the rocker.

Thanks guys... I took a break and really read my haynes book. It states that the copper end fits into the rockers. I would guess its a friction reducer because the lifter end has plenty-o-oil feeding it.

This was recently posted on that other site.

The push tubes will have a brass looking ball end and a chrome ball end. The brass end goes toward the rocker or up in other words.

Betcha that is a TiN coating(Titanium Nitride) like our inserts at work.On the inserts it gives the base material(usually powdered metal compound) a protective coating that lets the iron/brass/stainless/steel chips slip away instead of sticking.TiN is a tough coating either way.

Quoting from my 1886 Factory Shop Manual, page 22-08-50;
11. Install tappet guides.
12. Install tappet guide retainer and tighten to specifications.
13. Position pushrods, copper colored ends toward rocker arms, into their respective tappets making sure they are seated fully in pushrod seats.
14. Install rocker arms and valave covers with new gaskets as described in this Section
