Truck is new too me going through it replacing all the fluids 1992 with 176000 miles. Are the oil cooler seals something I should replace while I have oil and coolant drained or something I shouldn't worry about unless they fail?

It would be cheap insurance to do it while you have the fluids drained. I think the orings and a gasket set are around $15.

thanks for the advice saw a lot of threads on oil cooler seals figured it might be a common issue for a 24 year old truck

Viton O'rings ONLY. More like #70 for a set and gaskets. Grease them and inside of the ends as well. Make sure the ends go back on straight or you might cut a ring.

So if you decide to do this reseal job please test fit the headers on the bundle without the o rings in place. Do this to feel how tight and straight the headers must be to be installed correctly.
