Posi rebuild time frame

About how long does it take to rebuild a Ford 10.25 posi unit if you already have the axles out for seal replacements anyway. WE're talking not moving at breakneck speeds here anymore, just crawling along at a leisurly pace( which is about all I can do anymore anyway .

4 hours and you need a big vise .

I've got a big vice, a 12 ton press too, if that would be more suitable. Trying to picture what the vice is for. Does the case have to separate under tension ?

I would like to know where the vice comes in too? Installing carrier bearings would need a vice but that is the only thing I see a vice for.

The way it comes apart is to hold the side gear in a vise with a shaft or something ,and rotate the case to remove the spiders. If it is loose coming apart it should be tighter going back together.

Ok. I never do them out side of the housing so I have never seen the need for a vise.

I usually have it out doing bearings or a gear change

I used one of my axles to hold the carrier while I removed and replaced side gears and clutches. Bolt axle flange to 3 ft of 2x8. Stand axle up and place in vice jaws. Place carrier on axle shaft and stand on 2x8. Not so much needed taking apart, but you need all the grunt you have to turn back together.

I kind of like the looks of that doing it in the case routine. I bet I don't have enough room to get leverage on the thing to rotate the spiders back in with it in place though.
