Oil Trap

I've seen it designed before, but I'm going to throw one together whenever I have free time (not anytime soon ). Dont know if my CDR is bad, but I do get a good amount of oil in the intake. So to rememdy that, I'm going to do this:

I'm going to run the stock CDR into this, mounted somewhere. Then run a tube into the stock intake location. THe main purpose of this device is to get as much oil out of the blow by as possible before it goes into the intake. It is also different than a RDT in the fact that no gas will exit underneath the truck, as it will be burnt. When I do an intake of some sort, I will just drill and tap the tube to accept the hose.

I'm thinking at least 1" hose. Especially since it will have a longer path to go than the stock ATS CDR tube setup. So I might have to increase it to 1.5".

This is in the planning stages right now. I will keep everyone updated.

I like it - I think that the bigger diameter the tube and the more volume (cubic inches) the slower the vapor will be traveling thru the filter - this should allow more oil to be trapped on the element to fall to the bottom. I also believe the higher the outlet,maybe even top center for a location the better it will work. In other woirds slow down the speed that the vapor pass thru & more media for the vapor to collect on should be benifical. I am not so sure about steel wool but maybe the copper like the old chore girl scrubbers may be better (less cahnce of contaminating the oil and air to the intake). My 2 bits.

What I put in there was up in air. The design I saw a couple years ago used steel wool, but who knows.

I also agree, have the inlet in the middle bottom, and outlet up top. That way there is much less chance for the oil to travel up and out, as it should get caught in the media. But yes, it needs to have a decent sized tube to slow down the vapor. I will have to look at PVC one of these days at home depot or something.

I have a Racor CCV4500 that is a commercial version of what you are trying to do. They have baffles in the can as well as a filter for the oil to condense out of the system.

Justin you got room for a horizontal version? I will give you the one I made, it has a baffle in it to slow the flow and any packing will clog up and create more crankcase pressure.
It is aluminum, 1 inch in and out.
