This time I would put oil in but wait for coolant. Can run it to make sure its not leaking before putting coolant in.

Ah, I reckon it's not going to burn up within a minute. Thanks for the tip.
I'm going to definitely do everything I can to get it right this time!
At least I know the front header is good so I left it in the truck. That made things much easier.

Hell, I spent a good 30 minutes or more scrubbing the block surface to the point a paper towel came away completely clean. You could eat off of it.

I feel confident I've figured it out. When I put that valve in wrong the piston was sticking out of the header. I believe this is what caused the leak.

That assembly bypasses the filter when the oil is cold and thick and opens when warm.

They're separate. They connect to completely different chambers in the header. This one is the oil pressure regulator/ relief. As I understand it this valve reduces the oil pressure, or regulates, by letting some oil go back to the sump when the pressure is too high.

That's what I was thinking. And the one on the oil filter end is the filter bypass valve.

Fired it up, haven't put the coolant in as suggested, and let it run long enough to build oil pressure plus about 20 seconds.
...............no oil leaking!

Been idling for about 30 minutes and no problems. I'm taking it for a drive and then I'll call it after checking. Lol
