Oil Cooler resealing help

Oh, and it wasn't spewing out at high pressure before.
I'll get it off tonight and maybe get some answers.

The oil appears to come from the bottom side of the header and onto the filter head then down the side of the filter.
Lol, could it be that brass plug? I did accidentally loosen it when I took it off and from what I can see I don't see any oil coming out of the header seal. I need a better light though.

It is a brass plug just above and a slight right hand of the left hand bottom bolt, as you're looking at it.

The pressure valve is easy to fix.take the cooler out.put the valve back in,make sure its in correctly.around the hole you will see a couple punch marks.get a center punch and repunch it

Got the rear header and the cooler off.
The good-ish news is oil was clearly leaking between the gasket and the block.

Okay, so...
It would appear the gasket didn't seal. There was what looked like a trail of oil on the block and gasket that appeared to run down the middle from the block heater.
The block heater does actually come on contact with the oil, right?
The original gasket the rubber part around the oil cooler port was actually baked onto the block and didn't come off with the gasket. I have scrubbed and scrubbed and I can't get the spots off around the block heater port. I believe it's pitted. Could this cause a leak?
Also, the pressure relief valve seems to have seated itself while it was back in but I will make sure it's staked.
The header does not appear defective to my eye. I have everything scrubbed and scrubbed.
The main concern I have is the spots around the block heater port. If the block is pitted what can I do to make it seal?

Exactly how is the valve supposed to go in. I have three parts, a spring, a "piston" like piece that slides in a "sleeve" like piece and has a lip, and then the "sleeve" like piece that fits the whole in the header itself.
What order do they go into the header?

Will you get some pictures of what you're talking about? That'll help the most.
If the block actually is pitted, I would go with some rtv or possibly jb weld the area but just as a filler. Let it dry all the way and sand smooth.
And no, the heater only goes into the coolant.
And also which valve is in question. The one at the oil filter surface? Or block surface?

I could take a picture before when I have my clumsy description because the bottom piece in this pic was stuck in the head. I got it out.

The spring is obvious.
The middle piece I was calling the piston.
The bottom piece I was calling the sleeve.

It's the oil pressure relief valve. As I understand it when pressure gets too high it allows oil to flow back to the sump instead of the top end. That could be completely wrong.

It goes there. I am certain I had it in wrong and it was keeping the oil from getting to the top end.

Yep. That's how it goes. Well the piston part needs flipped around.
If you had it in wrong, I guess it could have been the cause of your leak.
I would still rtv both sides of the gasket.

This how I had it, broth the piston sticking out with the spring behind it, which means the piston was compressed against the block and shutting off the holes for the oil to flow. Essentially backwards. I good at doing that. I did that with my throw out bearing initially. Lol
This thing just might work.
