What happens when you use rtv on these gaskets is the rtv is slippery and the gaskets can move under clamping pressure. then you have a mees inside and outside the engine. As posted.. The gasket has red sealant already applied from factory. Use it and enjoy. I ALWAYS place the heads of any surface on a flat plate and some 400 wet n dry paper. Rub it a few times and look see for high and low places. Nothing worse than a leak.

i use a machinist's stone on all surfaces that are cast.

ok, since this thread has been answered and went sideways,

i tore apart an oilcooler today, o-rings were so soft i wish i hadnt took it apart, but upon further inspection a buncha orange crud came out of it!

1/3 from the bottom are all plugged!!!

is this as simple as running some filler rod down the holes??

looks like its a turbo core too with a circle stamp....

Nope it's a gasket with thin layer of Rtv
same as the Rtv removed from the Ip Gear tower.

well, i didnt have a tinfoil hat, but i had about 3 grams of the best plant in the world. (did i mention PLANT?)
about 20 tons of hate inside.
instead of committing a homicide,
i took some 5/32 aluminum filler rod and did a preliminary cleaning.
pretty bad in there.
its sitting in heated solvent for the night.
i hope im still a free man tomorrow.

The direction of flow thru the oil cooler bundle is back to front with coolant. So cleaning from the front to the back is the best way to clean the tubes. this way your not sending the collected crap thru the complete bundle. Might try a gun bore brush to clean the tubes too. I think a 22 caliber brush might be too large but there are smaller choices available.

i had some 1/8" brass round stock.
after sitting in heated solvent all night, all that crud came right out.
used bore rags from my .22LR and ran them through 2x per hole, seems to be pretty clean now.

both headers were clogged as well
got a plastic bristle bottle brush out and got em as clean as i could.

pulled plugs out and made sure everything was clean.
new o-rings, and header gaskets, all bolted on and ready to go!!

pan and exhaust manifolds didnt make it back from the sand blasters yet.
