I'd use a gasket. I'm not a big fan of silicone if a gasket is available and recommended.

I myself wojld be extremely hesitant to use RTV. mainly because of the *********** effect and potential for blocki g oil passages into cooler or oil galleys as well after the cooler.

Maybe I need a tinfoil hat but unless I was on deaths door in middle of no where and had no other option NEVER would I do it with RTV.

Having seen oil pump pick up screens and other hydraulic pickups an so forth riddled with rtv berries I do not need to include that tupe of calamity and pote tial for catastrophe in my stuff....

Black Grey Red heck rooster **** pink makes no matter what colour you use...************* have no prejudice

Yer nickle do as you please

JM2CW but *** do I know...heck I do t even use teflon tape either...k thats it...tomorrow I gotta make a tinfoil lid

Its too late for tin foil now Al......:eek:LOL We got you already micr chipped.
RTV has no place being used as a gasket on these headers. Now are you talking about the header to block gaskets or the rtv to be used instead of the o rings???

Well let's put it this way, when I was resealing my oil cooler, I found rtv ****** berries in the coolant tubes, the oil side, and a lot in my radiator. There wasn't even rtv on the cooler.....

Done more oil cooler rebuilds than I can shake a stick at and have never had one fail yet using just the Felpro gaskets. Never used rtv as a backup or substitute for the gasket.
Clean deburred surface and the gaskets and good to go.;Sweet

Looking at that pic closer, that's not actual rtv. That's off the gasket.
Looks like anyways.

also looks like some of the gasket material on the left side of the bolt holes...

if that was a RTV job, someone did a crappy job cleaning off the old gasket ;Really

What happens when you use rtv on these gaskets is the rtv is slippery and the gaskets can move under clamping pressure. then you have a mees inside and outside the engine. As posted.. The gasket has red sealant already applied from factory. Use it and enjoy. I ALWAYS place the heads of any surface on a flat plate and some 400 wet n dry paper. Rub it a few times and look see for high and low places. Nothing worse than a leak.
