In the last month & half my number 4 cylinder has been burning out quicker than "normal", Autolite now replaced with Motorcraft, (thanks to Gatorman)
Is that a controller problem? Or more serious?

icanfixall,
I have been running Autolites in all the others, not had that problem. Haven't had a problem with swelling gps either, is that a brand problem or too many cycles on the gp system when it doesn't want to start?

While i agree that autolites shouldn't be used, if this has happened multiple times in the same cylinder then there's something going on in that cylinder.

What, though, i dont know. Could be an injector popping too early.....

How old is your pump and injectors?

If you have lost several glow plugs then I would not feel its just a bad plug in one particular cylinder. Being its always the same cylinder maybe its time to look at the injector. You could remove the injector and have it pop tested or just move it to another cylinder but... Watch that cylinder for the same issue. Generally speaking an injector lasts for between 125,000 and 150,000 miles. They drop off so slowly we don't feel it. But install a new set and wow.. The lost hp and mileage comes back...

i kept having 4 plugs die on me. the same ones every time. i had my injectors pop tested and 4 of them were bad. i don't know which injectors were bad, but i would be willing to bet that it was related. since i got good injectors in i have not had any glow plugs burning out.
