new exhaust?

Ive got a Thrush welded muffler on my truck. Its a copy of a flowmaster 40 but it only cost $30. I went and ran 3" from the y back and dumped the exhaust out in front of the wheel and finished off with a 5" stainless tip. It sounds pretty good!

Ah, that's a good idea! But, where you fund it for just $30?

I have changed exhausts on my idi about 10 times literally and the main thing that i have noticed is there is no way to get rid of the raspy sound in the higher rpms. The bigger the pipe the deeper the tone and glasspacks do make it deep and rumbly but you will still have that rasp at high rpms.

I don't really spin past 2000 rpms, so I'm mostly looking to better the sound down low - up high I don't really care for sound quality, just the obnoxious loudness.

i've had a 2.5" cherrybomb on mine for a couple years now and like it, let me see if i can get a half decent video with my phone. i just picked up two 3" 40series flowmasters for free so i'll see what they sound like...

I don't think I'd want anything other than a straightpipe with a turbo engine. Too much backpressure. I think you have the best system you can have right now.

Are you referring to a setup like my current 4" straightpipe? Will the lack of back pressure cause any damage to anything?

no, with a turbo the less back pressure the better. the best thing possible would be like a 4" pipe right out of the turbo and through the hood, but obviously you don't want to do that on something for the road.

4" strait pipe, to the tail or infront of the RR tire? if you want to quiet it down a bit find the most freeflowing muffler you like the tone of. some of the mufflers wont effect the flow enough to notice but i wouldn't know which ones

Anyone know if it makes a big difference going to 4" straight piped from 3" straight piped? I have a 093 ats with the 3" upgrade.

i have the exact same setup as cdx 825 and i love it but i am going to be putting 6 inch bull horns on soon and i bet the will sounds awsome as well it has realy nice deep tone to it

The Flowcan type mufflers are not desirable for a diesel. My Cummins had a Cherry Bomb Vortex on it when I got it, just dropping the muffler off, on flat ground, 60 mph cruise, dropped my EGT's 200 degrees. If you can't see through it, it doesn't belong on a diesel.
On my 6.9, I ran a 3" pipe out in front of the RR wheel, and really wished I hadn't... But, with the price of 3" locally, that was how it stayed.

That picture was taken within about a week of polishing all 4 wheels, as you can tell by the front.
When we put the turbo on my buddy's truck, we ran it into a pair of 5" turnout stacks. Sounded great, could hear the turbo whistle alot more, and it made it a deeper louder sound, but, it also got a good bit louder in the cab...

My Cummins, well, it didn't have a tailpipe on it when I bought it, and I just dropped the muffler, so it just sort of ends just past the back of the cab...
