chances are the mechanic/ tech at the garage has never seen an IDI and doesnt know how to fix it.
fixing the oil cooler has no possible effect on the rod.
Is it possible that the oil cooler was leaking antifreeze into the motor before??
as for them checkingh the injector, WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE OIL COOLER?? was there a complaint from you that there was a problem.?
Just like Darrins case, when they put the injector in, did they bleed it, did they replace the return lines.
air in the fule system makes some loud noises, this is true om a idi,, a psd, and even a cummins.
when I had a rod break, it made no noise, other than the oil pan being ripped open , and the engine stopping abruptly.
If the truck is running, go get it and find someone who has more experiance with an IDI, not a dealer tech who has all the gadgets to fix a .64 and never heard of a 6.9
as for the mechanic/tecnition thing.
I can tell lots of stories of so called owner techs that I wouldnt let work on my bicycle.
