My 89 N/A was getting 17+ with E4OD and 33s no matter how I drove. My 93 turbo ZF5 on 33s or stock seems to only get 10 no matter how I drove and that' with new IP and BB injectors.

Two years ago i was getting about 13mpg. This was a great improvement over my last truck (1995 2500 4x4 350cu auto 10 mpg no matter what I did with or without a trailer). Went to the IDI Rally in PA and got a tune up by Mel on dyno day (pulled 142rwhp on the dyno) and got 16 on the way home with an automatic trans. Love it.

Very interesting the variety of the numbers here. It is bizzare how different some members numbers are.

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad I checked and very happy with the results.

Riot, sounds like you worked hard for accurate methodology.... but what about odometer accuracy? In general, our trucks tend to read about 10 percent more miles that actually driven with the stock tire size. That makes calculated mpg read about 10% higher (or thereabouts). Your tires are about 33 inches tall, which in my truck makes the odo read within a couple of percent of dead on, so that eliminates the tire variable. Your manual 5-speed is also a big plus.

I'm jealous! In 25 years of owning my truck, even when it was new and tight, the only time I scratched at 18 was before I knew the odo was of and my "18" was really only about 16.5 mpg.

I don't really drive the truck enough to care to follow MPG, but the 'FUELLY' thing has intrigued me. I'm going to download the app and give it a shot. But given that my commute is not even 5 miles one way and all on city streets, I'm not expecting much. Heck, I probably waste more fuel letting the truck warm up in the driveway in the morning!

all of the pre 87 trucks that I have had, the odo was fast on, but every 87 and newer that I have had, the odo was right on.

Those are good mileage numbers for your vehicle.
My 86 F250 with turboed 6.9, 3.55 rear, C6 sees around 15 mpg mixed winter driving (with some 4x4 - maybe 40%). The best I have gotten when the truck was much newer, was 19mpg with a 9 1/2 Bigfoot camper on the back - not turboed then either. As long as I kept to 80kph or 50mph, I could get tbetter figures - seems to be the sweet spot for the naturally asphixiated 6.9 engine .

My ODO is darn close, so is speedo...compared to GPS was out with 235's but the 255's brought me right close...1-2 KMH difference...

Thanks

MPG

I have driven my truck since 1999.
Then it got me 12/14 mpg with Rotella oil changes and USDSL.
In 2002/2007 I regularly pulled 20mpg in the city and as good as 25 hwy
I rebuilt the engine 2010 and the first few hundred miles pulled in 20mpg.
Now I am burning WMO and it is getting incredible mpg with the added intercooler.
So happy I stuck with the OBN 7.3 IDI truck.
I make a round trip run often that is around 130 miles and I use up about 5/6 gallons of fuel.

I think it is normal. I drove 1700 miles, being a real good boy 60 mph all highway, one straight shot with a only quick nap on exactly 100 gallons. Lots of power service, may help a bit, who knows...

I finally found my mysterious exhaust leak tonight. the passenger exhaust manifold has a crack at least halfway around. My down pipe is broken right at the turn underneath the tuck so I thought that was why my truck was smoking a decent amount under the cab. I'm better this is why I don't really hear my turbo and why my truck feels down on power and only gets 10mpg.
