Why not just get a single mass flywheel? And...what is wrong with the DMF?

Clutch for Lucky Mod Flywheel
I just got back from a trip and stopped in Denver to pick up a clutch kit for my Lucky Mod flywheel at a place called the Clutch Exchange (3559 Brighton Blvd., Denver, CO 80216, (303) 293-8680). I wound up with an education too!
The owner showed me the difference between Luke and Valeo. He said the Luke has about a 40% loss rate on pressure plates he rebuilds whereas the Valeo has about a 10% loss rate. The Valeo are made of heavier metal and just more rugged. He physically showed me the difference and it is obvious when you see them side by side. He said he can build about a 1900 lb. pressure plate with the Luke but that goes up to about 2400 lbs. for the Valeo. That's a lot of clamping force difference! He said if he tries to build a Luke to that much pressure the cover distorts while they are assembling it and it cannot stand the spring pressure.
He offered to provide a kit for anyone on the forum needing one for a Lucky Mod flywheel. The price is around $180 for the kit. (We tried to put together a 12 inch setup but he couldn't make it work with standard clutch cores available.) This 11 inch kit includes a disk with springs in it to absorb the shock as needed. ...and we know the spring type clutch disk is needed which often is not what is in the stock kits available for our trucks. You'll have to make sure you let them know exactly what you are doing, explain the Lucky Mod you do to the flywheel for them, and that you do need the spring type disk....and I would definitely tell them I wanted a Valeo pressure plate set up for the max. clamping they will build it to safely. Oh, if you want something more exotic they have ceramic and Kevlar too, to rich for me though.
I told him I would let the folks here know he can provide kits specifically for the Lucky Mod flywheel. I have no interest in this company other than I was pleased with the kit and education I got. I just thought it was very good info. and worth passing on.

Because if you have a DMF in your truck already, you can convert it to SMF with the Lucky Mod and eliminate the need (read expense) for a replacement flywheel. There are also some folks who think the DMFs can come apart due to spring failures with some pretty catastrophic results.
