How would a 97 Chevy crew cab 6.5 turbo diesel dually with 80k miles match up to a 99 F250 Powerstroke 7.3 diesel with 140k miles. I hear all the negatives on the 6.5 it is a good deal and I wonder if I should take the chance on a chevy. I have had a ford 7.3 IDI non turbo motor, which truck would make the best towing machine in the long run with less problems. Asking the experts.:dunno LMK

Unless the chevy is really cheap don't even consider it. '97 is a bad year for cracked blocks. For towing the P-stroke will run circles around the 6.5 and stay cool doing it.

I thought so...........but just making sure it was a good deal but no that good of a deal to make the move to the 6.5 diesel. Ill stick to my 7.3 or maybe the 5.9 24 valve cummins.

Yeah, the only chevy diesel i would ever consider buying is a D-Max. But then the truck itself isn't as good. If I were going the chevy route and money/time weren't an issue, I'd put a D-max/ally in an 80's 3500.

In this situation I would definitely go for the powerstroke. The 7.3 is awesome.
